I was excited when I saw this package. I thought, it was a surprise gift from the boyfriend. I was filled with disappointment when I tore into the box and saw these things & whatever it is these things do.I know, it's a good price because, he's a penny pincher. But, haven't heard my ol man complain about this product..sooooo, it's safe to assume, it works.

Love starret, love these punches. Really sharp and don’t dull easy. But my 3/32 center punch broke on the second hit. I’m guessing it already had a defect

Muy buena calidad. Son muy duras. La punta no se deforma fácilmente y marca muy muy bien. Se puede usar para troquelar en cualquier material

First off these are likely not US made. They don’t make a lot of the lower end items anymore. That is also why you are paying $36 vs $60. Nonwood case either. Still.. they make sure the are made to their standards and you still get a quality tool made of identical materials. It is just the hands that make them are not on US soil so when you purchase these you are not supporting as many US jobs as before. This is also why I favor Mitutoyo with most of my measuring tools. You know they are made in Japan and you know you are getting a extremely high end tool for a fair price. Mitutoyo is king of anything digital. Their Quantumike line is about my favorite tool in the world!!

The prick punches are layout tools with acute points that allow you see well enough to accurately place the point directly on a scribed intersection and as long as they are tapped lightly to mark a dimple for a center punch, they will last forever. I often blanch at the cost of Starrett tools, but I have never been disappointed with one and in my experience you'll get what you pay for with this company. Don't loan them to a ham handed buddy.

proper quality set. Sharp as needles! i keep these locked up so my son can smash up and blunt the cheap set i keep hanging around the wokbench - and if i have something non critical I have to hit with a big hammer I dont waste these babys. My eysight isnt bad, but I have to use reading glasses for proper accuracy - and i struggled with cheaper tools. But these are so dammed sharp you can work your tip to get a very accurate start even with bad eysight.

Starrett is by far ahead of its time and true to its name. These are the sharpest and most sturdy prick and center punches I've ever used! Precision and Accuracy are what Starrett represents. Excellent for using a mag drill with roto broach bits.

I usually try to use the digital readout on a milling machine to place features on a piece, but there are times when it is much faster for me to just lay something out by hand, and use the drill press or even the mill. These punches are very nice for manual layout. The idea is the prick punches have a much more acute angle at the tip and can pick up the x where two scribe lines intersect much easier than the center punches. Once you tap the prick punch, it leaves a nice indent that a center punch will seat in easily, and you can widen the indent so that a drill will center in the work piece. The Starrett set comes with three prick punches and two center punches, they are all well made, durable, the fit and finish is excellent and the sizes are very useful. I've been very happy with this set.
