A well made caliper as you would expect from Starrett. No side flex with a good adjusting screw and will last a lifetime

The finish on these calipers is 2nd to none on the adjusting screw is smooth and positive. Are use these sizing calipers with a small wood lathe, and hopefullyI will last me a lifetime

Sehr gute Verarbeitung und schnelle Lieferung. Von Vorteil beim Andrechseln exakter Durchmesser bei laufender Maschine sind die abgerundeten Spitzen ... kein Verhaken. Klar, der Außentaster ist nicht billig, aber durchaus gerechtfertigt ... Qualität hat ihren Preis. Es gibt auch deutlich preisgünstigere bis billige Taster, aber Finger weg. Diese sind meist Schrott.

This caliper has smoothly polished spherical tips which provide one, and only one, contact point for each tip. When you adjust the caliper and test it on the part, it is immediately apparent from the feel whether the adjustment is too large, too small, or just right.

Some things are beautiful in their simplicity if well made. These calipers fit that description. Something this simple is easy to make cheaper and worse. Fortunately, Starrett doesn't succomb to that temptation. I bought a pair of these about six weeks ago for use with my wood lathe. Not only do they work well, they are a pleasure to use. The tips are ground and polished round. That means little risk of marring the work. They hold a setting firmly and yet are fast and easy to adjust. So these are easy to praise, as are all of my Starrett tools. When I've decided to pay the price for Starrett's quality I've never been disappointed. And that applies to more than a dozen of their products I now own.

I bought this caliper in conjunction with Starrett 73A-8 Solid Nut Inside Spring Caliper, Steel, Flat Leg, 0-6" Range. Both of those are really good quality products. If you are looking something similar - these two will be one of the best option.

Although Starrett products are very expensive, other companies just can't compete. I purchased cheaper calipers but they didn't meet the quality I needed so I broke down and purchased these. I'm glad I did. Although calipers are rather a simply items there's a big difference between these and the other ones I had. I can keep these for a long time and soon the cost will be forgotten but I'll still have a quality tool around the shop.
