Product description claims "Compatible with all RS232 communications" - FALSE. If all you need is RXD, TXD, RTS, CTS, then it should work. But if you need DSR/DTR, then it will NOT work. And the RTS/CTS lines cannot be substituted for DSR/DTR for some reason; I tried, it didn't work. Would have been cool to know about this before buying >$600 worth of the things.

My company bought one of these for an installation job. It was dead on arrival. I needed a replacement FAST so I ordered another on Amazon without worrying about returning the first one. The second one was also DOA. I went through troubleshooting steps with Startech customer support, thinking maybe it was something I was doing wrong. By the end, they agreed both sets were duds. Now I'm back to square one.

Nice equipment, i test it 60 meters without external power, for longer cable you should plug the power supply.

Extended a serial connection about 200 feet with these for an environmental control computer. They wanted 25000 to relocate the control panel which was absurd.

I used the extenders to run 9600 baud serial communications between computer and Burr Brown 2500 unit 160 feet apart with no problems. The supplied power supply was required on both units to get them to communicate at the distance I was using them at.
