This product was purchased as a gift and is being used by the recipient. I bought the 24 inch set for a 12 year old that is about 5 feet tall. So, I would have purchased the 31" model except for it was not available at that time.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a blue bolt of lightning, these Aluminum Starting Blocks are your ticket to the fast lane!First off, the 6° adjustable angle had me feeling like a human protractor, calculating my trajectory to victory. The portability is top-notch. I’ve been carrying them around town, ready to race anyone, anywhere. The postman, the milkman, even the unsuspecting jogger in the park - no one is safe from my spontaneous challenges! The blue color? Oh, it’s not just blue. It’s the kind of blue that says, “I’m not here to participate, I’m here to dominate!” It’s the blue of champions, the blue of the sky you’ll be reaching for as you launch off these blocks. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a high-end, premium, portable, adjustable, and intimidatingly blue starting block, look no further. Just make sure you’re ready for the speed, because with these blocks, you’re not just running - you’re flying!

The pictures don't show it but there are some short spikes on the part with the handle and the main track. They are about an inch long and are screwed in. With a set of pliers you can unscrew them. The blocks fit a bit lose onto the track but I suspect that wouldn't be an issue when using them as a starting block. My insurance company gave me money to buy exercise equipment so I ordered a cable tower that has handles. You can raise and lower the pulley for the handles depending on the type of workout you wish to do. The have a flat plate that connects to the base that you can put your feet against but the option cost more than these starting blocks and wasn't adjustable. It's just a painted steel plate. So I got these. You can adjust the blocks from about 45 degrees to almost 90. They are the perfect width to use as a foot pad for rowing exercises. If I feel the need I can add a bench or sliding seat but I don't think I'll want to. Since the blocks have a rubber pad on them to keep your shoes from slipping they will also work well for rowing reps. These are heavier than I expected. The main channel is aluminum but the foot blocks are made from steel. The blocks slide onto the main channel into the slots. In one of the pictures you can see the heads of the screws that hold the yellow plate to the side of the block. But what you can't see is behind the plate are spacers that keep the gap between the plate and the block that fit into the slots. The main channel is maybe 1/8" where the slots are and the spacers are probably 1/4" so there a bit of slop. But they aren't going to get stuck on. When you are using it your feet are pushing on the blocks and they don't move.I don't know if other brands are different but when carrying this there's not really anything to keep the blocks from falling off. The slots have a slight angle to them so when you push off with your feet the blocks get locked onto the channel. When carrying it by the handle the slots will allow the blocks to slide right off. If your setting up a meet and have to carry several of these at the same time it could be an issue.
