I’m sure these seals work great for standard light switch covers but I had Hampton Bay Cottage series covers that when placed over the seal had a large gap between the cover and wall. It was just too thick. Too bad because they look really well made and fit perfectly over the opening

These outlet covers are pretty good, they adhere very well and block out drafts. The issue is that most drywall is cut in a way that makes the hole slightly bigger than the outlet box and these covers just barely cover the gap. If the covers were another 1/4 inch wider and longer they would cover well.

I live in a house that doesn't seem to have been made with central AC in mind, which means it tends to let a fair amount of humidity in during the summer. Which means I often get condensation dripping out of my light switches on the outer walls when it gets hot. Drives me nuts and never quite seemed safe to me. As the cheapest possible solution to prevent the cold air from the AC from hitting the metal, I tried this not expecting much, figuring I would have to come up with a better solution later. I was pleasantly surprised. This simple little piece of foam has COMPLETELY stopped my condensation problem in those light switches, and I can't feel any hot air coming through the switch plates AT ALL anymore. We are now planning to go through and cover all of our outlets and switches with them before winter because every little bit helps in this house.

These are really thick and I LOVE the way they stick to the back of the switch plate. This system ensures complete coverage over the gap around the outlet. I would add that the thickness does make the switch plate stick out just a tiny (very tiny, less than a mm) bit from the wall once reinstalled, but not enough to be bothersome in my opinion and there is ZERO air flowing out of the outlet after installation. PERFECT! Will but again, worth the extra money.

I have used several different brands of this item all purchased form big box stores. I like this one better. Here is why.1. The sticky side is a nice touch. It makes it a lot easier to install and ensures a better seal.2. It is thicker then some of the brands available from the big box stores. If you are reading this and are on the fence about installing these at all its worth it if you have a home more then about 15 years old. Newer homes, perhaps post 1995 or so, and especially post 2005 have stronger air sealing.Good way to tell if you need these is to place your hand near a plug or switch during the winter. If you feel a slight breeze, these will help.
