The old unit began sticking in the off/up position after ice was discharged. Took it apart and couldn't see anything wrong and the control arm moved smoothly, but when reinstalled it would stick again. I saw that you can find the control module for just $29, but decided to replace the whole unit just because. I saw that the true OEM product badged Whirlpool is over $200.It really is a 5 minute thing -- remove the ice bin- loosen (do not remove) the two screws holding the ice maker to the wall.- raise up the old ice maker and lift it off the screws.- unplug the old ice maker - pull the tab on the wide side out to get the plug to release.- remove the old unit.- remove the plastic punch-out on the new unit for the water inlet.- plug the new unit in.- pop the new unit on the two screws and tighten them.- Put the ice bin back in.You be done. This is the 4 pin wiring harness with ground, brown, black, white. Black is hot AC and white is neutral, and the brown is to the water valve and green is ground. So it is work checking to make sure you have voltage between black and white before you buy this - 115-125VAC here in the US.Make sure that the black wire dongle-jobby runs through the metal clip - I believe that is a thermistor to cut power when the unit is too warm. If it is not installed in the holding clip it won't turn on.That is it. You just saved $250-$350 over having someone do it for you. I love the simplicity of this two decade old fridge. I keep hearing about the many problems people have with new fridges, but this thing just keeps working perfectly. Had to replace the compressor fan once, and put in LED bulbs inside to make it have that cool newish light that the cool fridges have, but it just keeps working and because there are millions of them, parts (like this) are pretty available and cheap.

The ice maker has been working well producing lots of large ice cubes and we are happy. Unfortunately I was unable to find an exact replacement, so I did have to cut the electrical quick connect fittings on the ice maker and freezer and connect the wires by hand. All wire colours matched up, and then shaved off some of the plastic base with a drill and a grinding disk so that the ice maker would mount nicely then screwed the ice maker onto the mounting base that sides in and out of the ice maker compartment of the freezer. If your a little handy and have two hours to spare you will probably save $400 labour. I attached two pictures of the refrigerator it’s a 2013 Maytag and the ice maker was $102.

That estimate obviously doesn't include taking all the crap off the top of the fridge before you move it...Well, I read the reviews and watched the videos and decided I could handle this DiY project. That said, it wasn't all as advertized. Forget about it being a 15 minute project. It also doesn't include the time you'll need to spend cleaning/sweeping the floor under the appliance, or vacuuming all the cobwebs and other dirt off the walls behind it. And don't think I'm a super-neatnik, but the fridge hadn't been moved in a couple of years (why would it?), so this added 20 minutes or so to the project. (Glad my spouse wasn't there, or I'd have had to paint the walls back there...)Then, there was another 20 minutes to remove enough of the frozen food so I could work on the ice maker install. (You'll be amazed at the old stuff in there - packages of hot dogs from 2011, etc.)Finally, I got to the actual install. The removal of the old ice maker went fine. Don't remove the top two screws, just loosen them and lift the old unit off them. Needed a flathead screwdriver to disconnect the old wiring harness. No big deal.New parts fit fine. I saw the video, so I didn't need to read the instructions that came w/ the new parts. Not like the instructions were readable: a piece of 6"x7" paper that was about as thick as toilet paper. The "instructions" and illustrations were in 5 pt type. Not to worry - I saw the video...Install of the new unit went smoothly, until I realized that the piece you use for the lower screw to attach to the freezer wall as well as hold it up securely - it wasn't pre-attached to the new unit. So, I smacked myself for not reading the unreadable instructions, until I realized they didn't say anything about doing that before you screwed the side-mounts in.Aggravating, but after another 20 minutes, I got this lower brace installed without taking the new unit out and re-installing it. If you can't do this without taking the new unit out, it will only add another 5 minutes, unless you strip one of the screws; then you're screwed - royally.Got the appliance plugged back in, and pushed it back into position. Took another 10 minutes to clean up the floor and the counters, and put away the tools.Six hours later it started producing ice. Been cranking it out for the last week. No probs.Spouse thinks I'm a pretty handy wiz, so it's all worth it. For this, I'd give it six stars if I could.Just make sure you allocate enough extra time for all the things the video doesn't show you have to be done. Or maybe you're handier than me (wouldn't be hard...).

I used this Supco RIM943 replacement ice maker to replace the model # S 106 626662 ice maker that was in my 8 1/2 year old Roper (By Whirlpool Corporation) side by side refrigerator. It was an exact fit except for a few minor modifications: 1) I used the "full bin stop" wire from the old ice maker because the new wire was not long enough. This swap is very easy to do. 2) I cut out the marked and scored tab in the back of the water fill bin for proper fitment (to look like the old ice maker). Again this was very easy to do. 3) I moved the clip that holds part of the wiring harness to the bottom of the ice maker from the forward position to the rear position (like it was on the old ice maker). I had to use a pair of pliers to accomplish this task but it was relatively easy to accomplish. 4) I had to use the wiring harness from the old ice maker because it was hard wired into the back of the freezer (no connector to unplug) but easily unplugged out of the old ice maker and easily plugged and snapped into the new ice maker. 5) I used the old ice maker front cover because the new front cover had a small crack in it. The size of the old cover was identical to the new cover and a perfect fit to the new ice maker. I liked the way the old front cover looked anyway. The Supco RIM943 made its first batch of ice in about 90 minutes after installation. The old ice maker never made ice that quickly even when it was new! I am hoping that Supco makes a replacement ice maker for the one on my 2003 Rinker 342 Fiesta Vee Cabin Cruiser as it is now over 10 years old and starting to act up.Update: I have now been using my ice maker for 24 days and it has performed flawlessly. It makes more ice than I can use so my ice bin is usually full. Do not hesitate to purchase this product.
