Yes it is portable since it is small but never used it for that. I hooked it up to my TV which was easy to connect but took multiple times adjusting cords to get it to work. Used off and on for a few weeks ok then it stopped connecting to the TV and will not even work as a charger for the switch. Would not recommend at all since I had to buy another kind. Worthless.

As someone else has stated, it works great when it's fully connected. I left it charging on the dock while I went and did chores around the house, but when I came back and tried playing, it wouldn't connect right away I had to undock it, power cycle it, and re-connect it again to get it to work. When it's working, it does its job nicely. Also, make sure you are using the right adapter for charging it, otherwise, it will charge very slowly.
