The Synology disc did not function properly. I returned it within 30 days after trying tech support and receiving a case number. Synology tech support said that one hard drive was malfunctioning. however, the seller Aventis claimed the item worked fine and charged 18% restocking fee ($143.82). Claimed that I did not return a memory stick. I returned all that came with it.Amazon customer service also refused to help--became very rude as I insisted that everything was returned.Upon further review of the purchase I found that Aventis shipped the wrong item, which they acknowledge on 8/31 and gave me another partial refund. However, the seller kept using an image of the wrong shipment (that was never received) to justify their assertion that a memory stick was not returned.I provided proof of the correct shipment and items received, but the seller refused to address the issue.Sadly, Amazon Prime Customer Service has refused to help in this matter, siding with the seller.

Acquired this to use to store video surveillance after I decided to install six 4K IP Cameras. I failed to do the appropriate research but cannot fault the product for that. If you need up to 20TB of network storage that does not require heavy compute demands this should work just fine. The basic license that comes with the Synology Surveillance SW covers two cameras. For up to eight cameras it will cost you an additional $300+. More importantly, to decode multiple 4K video streams takes some heavy processing power. The unit has a modest CPU. So be prepared to use a separate server to run the Synology SW or look for a more powerful NAS if your use warrants. I didn’t want to pay for cloud storage and wanted my own ecosystem. The Synology Software itself I found to be quite intuitive. Bolton line is if you want a small footprint NAS that doesn’t require beefy processing power this should be fine.

I’m editing my review - 45 days have passed and vol 1 drive failed - waiting for response from Synology.

The product was good and worked as expected. However, had issues with the DIMM card,so due to the lack of follow-up on support, I returned the product. I am going to try anotherproduct to see how it does. If I don't like it, I will try ordering the product again. As for the initial Amazon support, it was great and helped a lot, even with providing me witha return shipping label, if support wasn't able to fix it. As a side note, they upgraded me to anewer version and increased the DIMM memory, which would have been great, if I kept it.

We run seven pcs, 5 in the office and 2 from homes. All files are saved on the network now using this device. Amazing fast and a true work horse of our shop.

Setup is incredibly straight forward, the interface is simple, and flexible and there is a huge library of applications from backup to media to remote access. The compact size is great and it is quiet enough to have operating on the desk next to me while I work.

We needed to replace our old file server. After much research we decided on the Synology NAS. It is much smaller than our old file server but comes with lots of extra features that we can choose to install. The set-up process was easy and the instructions were simple to follow. It is fast and very quiet.
