About this item

The new Moccamaster KBGV Select makes it easy to brew either a half or full carafe – the selector switch allows you to choose the amount you prefer. It features a glass carafe and an automatic drip-stop brew-basket that stops the flow of coffee when the carafe is removed. The KBGV Select brews a full 40 oz carafe of coffee in four to six minutes; after brewing, the coffee is kept warm on our unique hot plate. The hot plate's independent heating element ensures that your coffee is held at the perfect temperature, no matter what amount you've brewed. All Moccamaster Coffee Brewers are handmade in the Netherlands and backed by an industry-leading 5-year warranty.

In brief:-Makes wonderful coffee quickly.-I was initially disappointed with the carafe. Seemed flimsy and the handle ergonomics are not good. For such an expensive unit it seemed like a big miss. At least make a handle that feels good in your hand. I’m over this now because of the coffee quality. Also, don’t try to pour fast.-Needs more ground coffee than what we used with the Cuisinart - but it’s worth it!-1.25L (42oz) is not a lot of coffee, but it brews quickly. Seems like a European cup is 4 oz while it’s 6 in the US.Had a Cuisinart drip unit for years, which took a long time to brew and made ok coffee. My spouse works at a local coffee company and we get whole beans cheap, that said, we still preferred Starbucks Verona. We purchased the (expensive) Moccamaster on sale ($100 off) and used their recipe of 7 scoops per pot (1.25L) - WOW! The coffee brewed quickly and was delicious. We now prefer the locally roasted coffee to Verona and have settled on 6 slightly rounded scoops for a full pot. We buy dark roast whole beans and use an OXO burr grinder set to medium. Brew time is around 6 minutes.I expect this to be the last coffee maker we ever buy. If you like coffee, buy one.

I got rid of my Breville Brewmaster Precision Brewer and replaced it with the Moccamaster KBGV Select. I couldn't be happier. First and foremost the brewmaster allowed for setting the temp but never made a cup hotter than 136 degrees unless you brewed a half carafe or more (approx, 32 ounces). Granted, the Brewmaster is bigger but what is the point of having a temp setting if it doesn't work. I wasted a ton of coffee just to get something hot (and no, the microwave ruins the coffee). This beautiful unit however can brew a single cup at a piping 186 degrees within 4 minutes; and it tastes great! The only downside is that you have no control over the bloom. Basically blooming is soaking the beans for a set amount of time before releasing to the carafe. I typically bloom for about 30 seconds. But here is a trick, start the brew before putting the carafe under the maker and you have a poor man's bloom! I never wait long enough to have it overflow over the top. This is pretty much unnecessary on this coffee pot as the coffee comes out great every time. Finally I have found a simple coffee pot that simply does what it was designed for without over architecting needless technology or any gimmicks. Some other tips:Never put tap water into these machines. Use distilled water and you will rarely if ever have to descale the unit.If you grind your own beans you can simply set the grinder to a set time for the measure. No need to use the spoon or anything.Everybody has a favorite coffee roaster. I stumbled upon Two Brothers out of Chicago and they have a consist process that gives me exactly what I am looking for in coffee. I use other brands for espresso.Enjoy your coffee!!!

The coffee maker arrived pretty well packaged. Some assembly was required, but it was pretty simple. I ran it a couple of times with filtered water to clean out dust or stuff left behind in the manufacturing process, then I decided to make my first pot of coffee on it. I don't have a scale to measure out the exact amount of coffee to use, so I followed the instructions which said 7 scoops for 10 cups of coffee. This turned out to be a little too much, my coffee came out way too strong. But it smelled and tasted better than any coffee I'd ever had on my Cuisinart brewer. I love the aesthetics of the Moccamaster, it's kind of retro. It all feels very sturdy, even the plastic has a solid feel to it, nothing feels loose or out of place. It's smaller than I'd expected, but that's not a bad thing. Honestly, so far I'm pretty impressed. I'd definitely recommend it if you're okay spending a lot of money on a well built coffee maker with a great reputation.

The product came damaged! It's a shame that after seeing so many reviews of this excellent product it comes this way. I gave myself the opportunity to make such a big expense and I am very disappointed.

No solo es bonita, veloz y fácil de usar. Lo más importantes es el excelente café que se obtiene.

Easy to use, easy to clean and makes great hot coffee very rapidly. We enjoy the simplicity of the unit, it's all optimized to deliver great tasting hot coffee, so no need for various nobs that we would never use in any case. We also appreciate the absence of a clock which in many other coffee makers only servers to add un-needed light to the kitchen. We make coffee every morning for two (with 2 regular cups each) in under 5 minutes. For 4 or more people, you'll probably need to make two pots. A consideration if you need large volumes of coffee on a regular basis. The makers have put a lot of attention to many details to the coffee maker including reducing the noise it generates (although it make coffee very rapidly, this is the most quiet brewing machine that we have ever seen). The absence of styrofoam in the environmenally friendly packaging was also nice to see. Yes it is expensive but it's a great machine with a 5 year garantee that we have found is well worth the cost for a great cup of coffee.

Our grind and brew machine died on us and so we started using a French press and/or Areo press. Both options worked fine, but I like to make a pot in the morning so my wife can have a cup, and I can take the rest to work in a thermos.I started watching reviews on drip coffee makers and came across this unit. Everything about it was appealing.-THE LOOK- Aesthetically, it's stunning. Timeless, classic look. It's very clean, the textured finish looks very durable, doesn't finger print, and the color choices are excellent. (I wanted the pistachio color but once I pulled the trigger couldn't wait for it to be shipped so opted for my second choice). While brewing it looks neat as the water bubbles up the center column and into the outlet.-THE BREWING OPTIONS- Very basic controls, but the half pot select allows you to not only brew a half pot, but modifies blooming duration. From there the sky is the limit with grind options and strength without all the buttons and programming. It's also pretty fast- full pot in 6 minutes.-THE TASTE- I've had it 5 days and have made 7-8 pots... It's the best tasting coffee (obviously the beans, grind and everything can make the difference... but when I have a Tim Hortons or Starbucks it's just not the same) and I drink black coffee.-THE DESIGN- If it ain't broke... this design has been around for 50 years and is hand made in the Netherlands and comes with a 5 year warranty. It's not ground breaking but that's the point. Keep it simple. Quality parts, copper heating element, and separate elements for water heating and the carafe. The removable water outlet arm is a nice touch if it gets a fingerprint on it or if your need to clean- simply pop off.-THE PRICE- Ok, so this is super expensive for "just a coffee brewer" but personally I'd rather spend big money on a quality piece that has service able parts, rather than a machine 1/3 the price that may only last 2-4 years. This is a lifetime machine if cared for. Personally I drink at least 3 large black coffees/ day. Starbucks dark roast black is $4.00 CAD. It'll pay for itself in no time.-THE ONLY NEGATIVE- The glass carafe seems really fragile and thin. I'm paranoid it will break. I do not allow anyone to operate my machine as I'm scared they wouldn't be as careful as I when I rinse it.So if you buy pre ground coffee and want an easy pot of coffee, or like to grind fresh and experiment in grams per liter, ground size etc... but must have the best- buy this.
