This unit is smaller and is designed better than the power supply that this is replacing due to lose connections on the older unit. So far, this unit works just fine.

Works like a million bucks for just a few well spent bucks! Super easy to set up and use. I bought it to use for making my Electroformed Jewelry. It fits this need perfectly. I was worried with the price being modest that I would be getting something poorly made and inconsistent. So glad to say that I was happily surprised to find out it was in fact well made and consistent. 1st time I used it, I had to on and working at my set setting for over 5 hours with not a one hiccup! A steal for the quality and peace of mind!

UPDATE: Called customer service. Was really rude and kept using the phrase "user error". Said even if I returned it he was certain they would find no problems. I attached the same workload to 3 different units and they work perfectly. I have been electroplating all day everyday for over a year, I know what I'm doing.I assumed this unit would be different than the other TEKPOWER units, but I was wrong. The interface is different, but the mechanics are the same. This unit lasted about 1 month before it would no longer work over 0.25a. Yes, 0.25. I use this for electroplating so now the unit is totally worthless.Another one won't go over 1.2a.I have had 4 Tekpower units fail so far. I am using the units well below their advertised maximum current, this one at about 2.00a.For how much money I have thrown at Tekpower you would think they would offer better service, but no, they want me to return the unit at my expense which costs almost the same in shipping as the unit costs.I use 5 of these in my electroplating studio, fwiw. Switching to a different brand. Don't be fooled by the low cost, you get what you pay for.

What more can you ask for? It's a cheap, reliable, clean source of power for your electronics bench.Pros:Easy-to-read LCD displayStandard spacing banana jacks (makes it easy to swap connectors)Adjustment knobs are easy to use and they don't wanderNo frills operation, it just worksCons:Smells pretty nasty upon opening but is fading away quicklySlightly heavy (that is OK)Hard to beat the feature set of this power supply. If you are complaining that it only goes up to 18v how is that the fault of the power supply...that seems to be the fault of the purchaser. This fits 99% of my electronics tinkering needs currently.

I just got this today, and so these are my initial impressions. The quality is decent.Judging by the relay sounds, it has four voltage ranges: 0 - 4.0, 3.5 - 9.3, 8.8 - 13.8, 13.2 - 18.4.The displays always show the output, so for example you can't see what current limit you are setting without a load attached. Being illuminated, they are easy to read. The knobs are both single-turn potentiometers, despite the manual stating that the voltage control knob is multi-turn. It is not difficult to select a voltage to 1/10V accuracy, which is all the display provides. You can select to 1/100V with a multimeter attached and a very steady hand, although it requires some back and forth to home in on the desired value. Two minor negatives:1. My unit had something loose inside when I received it. I took the cover off to find out what. It turned out to be a small chunk of solder.2. It smells bad, although that is fading and I do not expect it to be an ongoing issue. The unit operates as expected. It looks good. It's cool and quiet. I'm happy. Feel free to ask questions if you have any.UPDATE 3/8/2023:I've had it for almost nine years and it still works great.

This is pretty good for the price. It seems to work fine so far and does what I need. The only criticism is that the adjustment pots are v-e-r-y sensitive - it's hard to dial in exactly the voltage you want, although it seems to stay there once you get it.I use a separate meter to get better than 0.1V and 10mA display resolution, but it's usually good practice to measure at the load to eliminate losses in the connections and wires.I wish that the Voltage and Current adjustments were more independent. If I set the voltage and then try to limit the current, the voltage folds back when I get close to the load current. This is not really a current limit function, rather you are choosing between either the current setting or the voltage setting. This isn't a $300 lab supply, but then you aren't paying anything near that much.

So far, it has performed flawlessly. Some reviews on similar models were unhappy with quality control or simply system failure. The one I received was as pictured, with back lit meters and the visual impression is gorgeous. Ordered with Amazon Prime on late Sunday evening with guaranteed Wednesday delivery. It arrived on Tuesday from Las Vegas. I am using it run several HO scale trains to observe voltage/current relationships for teaching power flows. The meters and output are rock solid, although you can hear the switching sequences as you increase voltage. Current use by the trains is virtually constant over a wide voltage range due to back EMF. I suspect some novice users are trying to control both current and voltage, and that's not going to work. Just turn the current to max and control the voltage. It did put out 3 amps when a locomotive stalled. I will be stressing it with a dummy load. Will update but am not yet ready to pop the hood and look at the innerds.
