The lens cap for my Nikon P1000 needs about 1.7mm depth of 77mm threads, or 3 threads, to seat fully. The Tiffen UV filter has only one ridge for the lens cap to grab and I'm not even sure if that was meant to accept a lens cap. When I try to seat my cap on the Tiffen UV filter, I can see the glass through the gap, and the cap falls off easily. There was a Q&A suggesting the filter was "stackable", and I have prior experience with a 25 year old Tiffen UV filter that does accept a lens cap, so I thought it would work. I guess not. I'll be sending this back :(

The UV filter is cheap protection for the lens glass. Circular polarizing filter adds a dynamic contrast to a photo.

On May 2nd, 2011 I ordered Tiffen 72mm Photo Twin Pack Filters. I ordered this for one of my Canon 50D camera lenses (can't remember which one). At the time we were planning a trip overseas so I was stocking up on my photo gear and after some research decided this was the right combination of price, performance, and protection for my lens. I’m a fan of all things photography, in fact at times it’s been an obsession of mine. Tiffen has had a long reputation of quality filters and these lived up to the expectation I had for them. They're high quality and well built. Your images are only as good as what you shoot through, protect your lens and always use high quality filters. The polarizing filter works just as expected and I use Haze / UVHaze / UV filters as a permanent lens protector. Nearly 6 years later I'm still using these filters. Definitely worth the price.Seller: Amazon LLCCondition: NewPurchase price: $66.95 (Shipped)

They definitely worth the price, but they are terribly packaged. The polarizer, which is more expensive than the UV filter, is wrapped in several sheets of paper, then into a firm box. While the UV filter looks better protected in the case which comes with it. There are also visible dust and dirt on both of them. I was able to clean up them afterwards, but I feel new ones should not be that dirty.

Filters arrived the next day and were in great condition - UV filter came in plastic bag so it can be used as it is intended for a full time lens protector and the Polarized filter came with a case. So far so good on image quality

When I bought my first SLR, a Pentax MX, the salesman pulled out a Tiffen UV filter and screwed it onto the lens. "Always keep a filter on there, and and always make it a Tiffen," he told me. "It's the best filter out there."Nearly 40 years and some 50 lenses later, I've followed that advice and never been unhappy. Oh, I've tried other brands, including some well regarded and much pricier brands, but I've always come back to Tiffen. This two pack came well packaged, with both filters in perfect condition both to my initial visual inspection and my later quick pic test (same shot, with and without a filter, unaltered by software, and printed one after the other). When my son asked me why they only gave me one carrying pouch, I told him what the salesman told me all those years ago; always keep a UV filter on the lens, and protect the lens. Since one of the two is always on the lens, the you only need one pouch for the other. For me, there are only three things about the filter I really care about: is it well made, and will it last, does it thread on smoothly and remove easily, and most importantly, does it absolutely not detract from image quality. these two filters deliver on my three criteria, and I will continue to buy Tiffen for all my future lenses.

I bought the just to have something to cover the front element of my lens.My reviews are not full of tech terms and percentages. I don't tell you how many lumens it took before image quality broke down. If that's what you are looking for, I would suggest [...]. I try to write it in terms that anyone can understand. My test criteria was simply: put the filter on the lens; point it at a dark scene; pan towards the sun. When I noticed flare or ghosting, I quit. The UV filter. You get what you pay for, and this is no exception. In the grand scheme of things, this is not a high quality filter. But it is a good filter, especially when you consider what you paid for it. I seem to get more flare and am a bit more prone to ghosting with the filter in place, than without it. However, pointed away from any bright, contrasty, source of light, it does it's job, and does it good. I keep it parked under my lens cap, and use it most of the time while I'm shooting for fun. I take it off when I need to be sure of the shot. The CPL (Circular Polarizer). Again, you get what you pay for. But this time you get a little more. While not a professional filter, it does a darn good job. Fantastic for the price. It does tend to add to the flare and ghost factor, but keep in mind, this filter only works at right angles to the sun. So that should take care of the flare and ghosting issue. On the down side of the CPL. It may be just this filter that I have, but it seems a little difficult to get started on the lens. And it does not take many turns to seat (about 1.5). This makes me a little nervous about dropping it, or it falling off. Again, this could be my lens. Secondly, it's rotation is rather stiff. In fact, I have unscrewed it while trying to adjust it. Lastly, it tends to make the sky a bit too dark, or blue for my liking. But that could be just my taste, and is easily avoided by paying attention when I adjust (rotate) it.All in all, very good value. If you are looking for bang for the buck, this is it. If flare and ghosting matter to you, save your money and go for the professional line of filters offered by Tiffen.
