I have borrowed an old pair of these haulers for the last 2 winters. Decided to purchase a pair for myself. These are different, as the hooks thread in and out. I am hoping this is not a huge problem, but I for see a hook unscrewing and falling off. And I also am struggling with keeping the hooks both straight. I am also concerned with the age of my new timber tuff haulers. I ordered Lime Green. Take a look at the photo to see what was sent. As I stated before, I am hoping for the best.

I got this to help me deal with an injury where I could not use one of my arms to carry firewood. And this does the job adequately. It is comfortable to use once it has a grip on the log, and it stays connected while in motion. But I needed to make some adjustments to the design for it to work properly. This is constructed of three basic pieces: (1) a steel cable, (2) the spiked hooks, and (3) a plastic sleeve. When it arrived, the hooks were not tightened to the cable properly, which made the first few logs on which I used it difficult to to pick up ... the hooks would just drift out of alignment and not bite into the end grain. And in very little time, the plastic sleeve also started to move out of center, adding to the frustration of trying to use it one-handed.In the end, I had to figure out what was going on, and took a look at the designHere's the deal. While there is a threaded connection with a locking nut between the hooks and the cable, there is no mechanical connection between the sleeve and the cable. By design, it will move around during use. Which would be okay, if it would at least stay off the hooks!. But with nothing preventing it from sliding off the cable, it is always off-center. (There are little heat-shrunk rubber grommets that are just for looks)I needed to modify mine to add a lock washer between the hook and the cable to both prevent the hook from backing out during normal use and to keep the sleeve centered on the cable.Having made the change, the hooks stay oriented correctly, and the sleeve doesn't slide further than the washer and it works as it should have when I got it. I even re-shrunk the rubber grommets to keep it pretty, but they are not doing anything mechanically.Honestly, it would cost like 10 cents more to make this part of the factory design :-/

I was moving 20 in green, wet, white oak rounds roughly 28 inches in diameter. The black covers between the hook and the handle were quick to get lose but they're not functional. Even with this tool I was barely able to move rounds this heavy and big.I would lot have been able to load my truck without this for fire wood. I wish I had bought these a decade and a half ago. I'll be ordering their smaller version after I finish splitting and stacking the wood I have already. You can make it work by going diagonal across the length of the round if this handle is too big but it's the right tool for the right job. I would not have been able to load the wood I found without this tool.

Bought two, one has failed after 4 years of little or no use. Unless it has changed, the design of my tool from 2011 depends upon an aluminum compression ring to hold the hooks inside the rubber bungee. Is the cost of this tool worth only a few years of occasional use? No, it is not. That aside, it worked great when it worked.

I was a little apprehensive that this might be a gimmick product but the reviews were good. This is a real tool that works surprisingly well. Happy to have it in my wood cutting kit.

I have used the tool only one time so far and it is certainly is a great concept, making it easier to lift heavy cut logs onto a log splitter. However, already one of the black connector caps between the handle and one of the hooks has slid away from its position. Seemingly a minor problem, but we will see...

Great help for picking up and carrying firewood. Told my daughter in another state that this thing will save my back, and my wife and I can be independent for a longer period of time and she won't have to move back here and take care of us. She was amused. Very thankful that we first saw this on "This Old House."

These are pretty handy for hauling large wood blocks up and down hill. I have a cabin perched on a hill, so having the wood to the side while negotiating my haphazard stepping stones is helpful. I use hay hooks for unloading logs from truck beds to give my arthritic hands a break so I thought I'd try the claws. Similar concept, well built and get a good good grip on the wood block while easier on the hands.

It is a Christmas gift. The person who will get it cuts his trees for firewood. It is a tool he doesn't have and will never expect. Men and their tools; they never have enough!
