I bought this one because I know TK O'Briens is a well known brand in the Dulcimer world. I own a Dulcimer but can't travel with it. I need my music wherever I go. I can safely pack the lap harp in my suitcase. I own a First Act lap harp. I decided to upgrade because it's difficult to find music cards in a good variety of music to fit the First Act.The detailed finish on the First Act has a round routered edge on the sound board and back panel. It just give it a classier look than the square edges of the TK O'Briens. The First Act also comes with small wooden routered feet on the back of it. It's ideal to have any wooden instrument to be slightly above any hard surface otherwise the instrument sounds muffled. I put small rubber feet on the TK O'Briens and it improved the sound. The sound hole on the TK O'Briens is far too big and too low. The ornament they placed in the sound hole is pretty but probably one of the things that makes it more expensive. It also doesn't compensate for the size of the hole. Any string you pluck neatest the sound hole resonates louder than the other strings. The TK O'Briens sound hole is so big and low that it make the sound between the octaves sound drastically out of balance, too low versus very high.I'm keeping it because it's not my full time instrument. It's a very playable instrument. I just don't like the sound. It's OK in a pinch lol.

Good quality and sound, instructions included along with sheet music to get started. Love the sound both with fingers or with the pick.

I’m a music novice, but this is exactly the harp my dad had in the 60s. It doesn’t look like a kids toy and sounds perfect. I play ‘by ear’ and cannot read music. I’ve played this constantly since it arrived. So much fun and more than a little nostalgic. Seems well made. Arrived in 5 days to Alaska, which is awesome. I’m very happy.

I am proud to offer this lovely lap harp as a Christmas gift. Clear, crisp bell like tones, perfectly tuned. I thought it was expensive until it arrived and I saw the workmanship and heard the wonderful music it made.

Such a lovely lap harp/zither! I bought 3 of them. A curly maple, a walnut and a birch. They are arrived early, too! I just had to see them all so I had them sent to my house even though I bought 1 each for my son and daughter(in-law) who live on the other side of the country from me. I had my eye on the walnut to keep for myself. It is glorious and love the dogwood blossom. The curly maple is a whole other kind of grand and I came close to keeping that for myself. But it's birch that caught and held my heart though. There's just something about birch...All three play beautifully. I don't but they do. They even made me sound good once or twice. I have no skill and have never played a lap harp before. But my son can play just about anything and I don't know if my daughter(in-law) plays an instrument or not. In the 5 years we've been family I don't think we ever talked about it. She and I always talk about my son's musical skill. But I wanted to get her one so they could maybe play together. There's just something about these lap harps. The sound is clear and so pleasing! The workmanship seems sound. All the parts just flow together. The wood is beautifully finished on both sides and medallion in the middle is a lovely touch! The thing I really truly appreciate is that these are crafted in America! We really need to support each other. No, I mean we REALLY need to support each other! When you find good craftsmanship like these, please support them! We're all Americans. If the poo poo hits the whirly gig, we need to have each other's backs.

I got this around the same time as I got my dulcimer, as I was looking for something new to try, I play the guitar, but I'd like to see if I could play a different instrument, but as I play by ear, I didn't want anything that would be overly-complicated, and difficult to learn. So I decided to give this a try. Although, I can more or less play "Amazing Grace" via the cards that came with it, I much prefer to make my own little compositions. As with the dulcimer, it's not anything fancy, recognizable, or even memorable. However, I do love it, as it a very beautiful instrument, especially the knot-work the center and I've loved and enjoyed learning to play. The harp seems tuned well enough, I started playing it right out of the box, it sounds great. I'll worry about tuning it more, as I get better at playing it, for now, it's well enough as it is. As with the dulcimer I hope to be playing something somewhat recognizable by Christmas.

You know, this little zither has not been disappointing in any way. I did purchase the SNARK electronic tuner and extra sheet music packets which really has made the whole experience so much more real. Then I bought a simple piezo pickup and attached the zither to my small guitar amp with my old cord and a whole new world was born. I taught an old dog a new trick and that dog was myself ! Now, playing "by ear" is a very stimulating event . By practicing with the music sheets the entire thing gets automatic sooner than you might expect. Great sound, cascades sound lovely and this is definitely a quality of life improvement that reaches beyond simply time well spent, it gets so real.... and you can do it too !

Very nice in size to be used on a table top. The music was very easy to play along with. I think it will bring a lot of enjoyment to my daughter and her family.
