These are a great size to display books/artwork that is about the size of a regular sheet of paper. The shelf is a bit thin, because they are really intended to display artists canvases and not books, but thinner books work well.The wood is not finished, but does have some sanding done, making it easy to paint or stain to your liking. There is no rough spots that I found that would cause splinters.The butterfly nut is easy to loosen/tighten and holds well. It's great that these can fold flat for storage and the angle can be adjusted for displaying.
