Update August '22: I wore out one bike but the bag is still going strong. As I mentioned below I cut out one of the panniers. I wish they made a smaller bag that mounted on the rack as I only carry emergency items like a lock, spare tube and tire tools. I've seen other brands in the bike stores such as Rock Bros. I would buy Topeak again if I ever need one. A great small bag. I expected nothing less from Topeak.. But the ad doesn't show that the side compartments are only for storage of the (small) panniers - which are not shown. With the paniers stowed there is no almost no room for anything else. I will probably modify (remove) the paniers as there is plenty of room in the main box for my needs. I would like to put tools and tire patch kit in the sides, as I hope to not use them often. Also _BEWARE: if you have the spring rack, it will not operate with the bag attached. That should have been obvious, but I have used these spring racks for a long time and never had a bag. I will probably add some bungies to attach layering clothes for cold weather, as I really like the bag. That is what I used to use the spring for.

I have gone through many bike trunk bags and have finally found the BEST one ever, and it is this Topeak RX DXP. The problems I have been experiencing with trunk bags is they are either too flimsy, don't stay attached to the rack well because of the placing of the velcro straps, poorly made, way too big, no expansion or just ugly. With the MTX rack adapter, this bag slides on firmly and snaps into place. Now I have complete confidence that it will never fall off. The bag is super small and compact, which is exactly what I want so that it is lightweight and not too bulky. It fits exactly what I need perfectly (water bottle, phone, small tool kit, napkins). Then if I need to go somewhere to pick up food or buy some small things, I can expand the 2 side compartments and easily store what I want in the pannier like side bags. I know this is not a new concept but the point is that the bag is so compact and tiny yet ALSO features pannier side bags - that is very rare in the market. I'm surprised they don't make more options for small bags like this. 99% of rack bags are too huge, heavy, they're all the same shape etc. This one is the first small, compact one that is super light, yet still expandable. There's no way there's a better bike rack bag on the market.

I recently started biking to work and wanted a bag to carry things back and forth. In my head I imagined I would need to carry a change of clothes, perhaps a towel, a bag lunch, and personal items (cell phone, keys, company badge, etc).I liked the idea of the Topeak Beam rack where I could detach it as needed (for example while riding on the weekends). This DXP bag seemed to be just the ticket especially with the expandable top and fold down side bags. I imagined putting a towel on one side and perhaps a change of clothes on the other side, and must work stuff in the middle. The published specs are like 14" long and 9" wide. That seems like a good size to be able to carry what I want to. In reality, the bag is really quite small. In fact, I might fit one shoe in the main compartment. the fold out side bags area also quite small, not really big enough to even carry a folded shirt.I would say this bag is better suited for carrying things for a ride (i.e. spare inner tube, pump, bike lock, cell phone, wallet, etc) then it is for commuting to work. If you are used to carrying a backpack, this trunk bag is not a replacement. In fact it might only carry about 1/3 of the capacity of the backpack. There is no issue with the design or construction of the bag, which seems to be very high quality. I just wanted people to get an idea of how much it can carry. The main compartment will fit maybe 1 size 12 men's shoe.

First of all, the RX Trunk Bag DXP is probably not intended to be used for overnight trips. It is far too small for all but the lightest packers. However, I would highly recommend this bag if you own the RX BeamRack (the road bike version). If you have an MTX BeamRack, you have the opportunity to purchase the much larger MTX Trunk Bag DXP which is compatible with your rack.I already own the regular RX Trunk Bag (I bought it as a package deal with the RX BeamRack) and it is a nice little trunk bag. However, it is a little small for what I need it to do sometimes (light shopping trips). The RX Trunk Bag DXP adds a little more room in the trunk due to the zippered expansion volume. Wher the DXP gains the majority of its increased volume is in the zip-out panniers. These are decent-sized and each side will hold a standard plastic grocery bag. Don't put anything too heavy (e.g. gallon of orange juice) in the panniers though as they have no support on the sides or the bottom. If you intend to do heavy shopping, you should look into the hard-sided shopping panniers (aka grocery getters). The bag comes with a handle on top for carrying the DXP. There's also a removable shoulder strap which stows away neatly in the separate zippered top compartment. The reflective striping is very bright and can be seen from multiple angles. There's a little fabric loop in the rear with hanging a rear blinkie as well. The overall construction, as with most Topeak products, is rock-solid.The primary reason to buy this bag is the convenience of the Topeak mounting system. The bag slides onto the RX BeamRack in less than 2 seconds and securely locks into place. No messing with bungees, hooks, or velcro straps. Removing the bag from the rack is as simple as pressing a button and sliding the DXP off. Remember to take the bag with you after you lock up your bike as the bag can be stolen just as quickly. All in all, if you have an RX BeamRack, this bag is a must-have.
