Okay bad news first! This unit does not come with instructions, a phone number or even a prayer. That's the ONLY bad thing about this. As you can see it still got a 5 star rating because it is a 5+ star device. It comes with the modem/router unit (this is a 2-in-1. You don't need a separate router), power cord and a short ethernet cord. I bought this because my ISP (Internet Service Provider) had given me a poor modem that I was paying $10/mo for plus insurance but had poor to no internet connection most of the time. I have no cable, 3 smart TV's, 5 Amazon Fire sticks, 2 Xbox's, 5 computers, various wireless devices and cell phones all connected primarily wirelessly at any given time. Needless to say we depend heavily on quality internet. Our modem was crashing and burning under the pressure. First I tried a TP-Link Wi-fi extender which helped but I was still having issues so in came this beauty! I still use the TP-Link extender but I'm getting a new one to match this unit speed for speed. I was advised the best one for this unit is the TP-Link AC750. Here's some useful info on set up: 1.) Connect the power cord to the back, plug her up and unhook your old modem and router. Take the cable cord that you disconnect from your modem/router and connect it to the back of your new cable modem/router combo unit. (Before you start go ahead and give your ISP a call, you'll need to provide them the MAC ID which is on the sticker on the bottom of the device along with your password and the main SSID (ex: TP-Link_xxxx those x's for me was a letter followed by 3 numbers. Your's may be different) and Guest SSID. Yes you have 2 networks! Boom! The name should be similar to the first SSID followed possibly by _5G). For those who don't know the SSID's are what you will see as the names of available wireless connections when you plug up the device. Those SSID's will be available immediately once the light on the front turns green. However, you cannot connect to them be it wirelessly or using the provided ethernet cord until you activate the modem using the MAC ID you will give to your cable company. Oh! Have a laptop, tablet or some wireless device handy so you can ensure connection before you hang up with your cable provider. Once they answer and you provide them the MAC they will update the system which should configure your device and you should be good to go and witness the magic that is this machine. I paid for the additional insurance. It was about $5-6. I recommend it.Just in case you have any issues I was able to hunt down the TP-Link number. The one you will find online doesn't work. Trust me.844-737-3887. You probably won't need to call them because this is a rather easy process but if you do they're quite nice. To change your device name, password, etc. Type your IP address into the web address bar in google, IE, Firefox, etc. login and password by default are both admin. You can change the login information to make it more user specific but be sure to save it somewhere safe and accessible in the event you need to access it again. From there you can make all the changes you need. I caution you not to get too adventurous in there though;) Hope this helped! Hoping you agree that it is indeed worth every bit of the $170 or so you'll spend. Don't forget to return your old modem to the ISP and start saving that monthly fee you were giving away. ENJOY!!!!Just in case you were wondering I have Wow! Internet for anyone who doesn't have one of the major cable providers or is a Wow! customer as well this unit works great!

first let me say I am not a fan of comcast/xfinity. I have limited basic tv out of basic limited local necessity & performance internet which is 3x the cost of limited basic tv. comcast/xfinity december bill contains notifications of price increases of almost all of their services. most increase by one dollar. (no more nichol & dime of yore- now dollar you to death!) Yet no information about modems reaching what they call EOL (end of life). i received an email from comcast/xfinity on 12/08/15 with the subject "important information regarding.." my service. it read in part that the modem which i own (for 4 years without incident) is reaching EOL and is no longer capable of supporting the speeds of my xfinity service & that email contained a link for supported devices. thankfully some products were linked to Amazon. I am a big fan of Amazon! I wasted no time researching and choose TP-LINK ARCHER CR700 AC 1750. I ordered it on 12/09/15 & received it 12/11/15 (AMAZON PRIME 2 day shipping YAY). Am I glad I did! SHEESH!!! To my surprise EOL had arrived! By 7am 12/12/15 my modem no longer supported any internet. wt... I was pretty mad to say the least, but ready to move forward. Based on amazon reviews I had read before ordering, I understood, there may be issues setting it up independently, without having to call comcast. so I made a cup of coffee, rolled up my robe sleeves and opened the TP-Link box. There were three things in the box: the unit, the power source & an ethernet cable. It was seamless and fast. The net was up without the call! Up & download speeds are bit higher. Follow the quick installation instructions TP provides for synchronizing with your isp provider. (I used the ethernet connection to my computer to remove the possibility of wireless issues) It should be ready to go. Go that is - onto securing your new modem/router and then connecting all of your wireless devices. This unit is sleek and slim. the status LED's are white and/or green and easy on the eyes meaning they're not too bright. There are a total of 8 small status LEDS that could be illuminated if necessary on the front panel. There appears to be no occurrence of blinking or unnecessary flashing.
