My Manfrotto tripod doesn't have a ball head, so leveling it for video shoots has always involved the tedious, trial and error method of adjusting individual legs to get a even horizon in my shots.This Camerig leveling base seemed like a good option, but I was a bit reluctant to give it a try. For one, I thought it might be time consuming to master. And secondly, I wasn't sure it would provide enough leeway to correct things when my tripod was on uneven ground outdoors.I should haven't been worried. This leveling base attaches easily under my tripod head and onto my tripod with 3/8" connections. Then, thanks to an easy-to-ready ball level, I can spin the three "dials" to level up the head of the tripod.True, it took me a couple of spins to know which direction to twist which dial. But within no time, it has become easier to adjust the Camerig than the time I've spent repeatedly fumbling with individual tripod leg lengths in hopes of getting my shots just right, level-wise.In reality, it's a pretty straightforward, but ingenious, product that definitely makes accurate leveling quite simple.

The "Camerig Tripod Head Leveling Base Camera Leveler" is a "simple in theory" mechanism that makes getting your camera into a level position so that the picture you want to take includes what you want in it without having to hope that post-production levelling won't exclude something out of your frame. In the past, I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to play with tripod leg heights to get my camera level for the photo I wish to take. Sadly, however, even when I think I have it set right there could still be some tilt in the end photo which puts it into post-production for cropping and levelling. Any post-production levelling can result in losing parts of the image along the periphery or having unwanted effects from adding horizontal or vertical tilt.Using the "Camerig Tripod Head Leveling Base Camera Leveler," however, enables fine tuning your camera's position so that you get the picture you want from the camera without having to rely on post-production settings to hopefully get the same result. Having the leveler on your tripod between the head and the tripod's body allows gradient level adjustments by way of the sets of screw dials found at each of three points. Each set has both a large dial for macro movements, and a micro dial for micro movements, of your camera so to to insure a level setting against your desired horizontal plane so to attain your desired photographic result.. Further, the leveler includes 3 level spirit indicators to insure a level setting against ground.The leveler itself is made of aluminum and is a solid, yet light in hand, metal construct. Each of the dials are well knurled for easy movement of the screws which in turn move easily within the construct to reset the upper plate's horizontal setting. The camera, sitting atop the tripod's head which in turn is sitting atop the leveler, will then, of course, move in accord with your setting of the dials. The leveler is shipped with an iuncluded fitted nylon plastic case for safekeeping against the elements.As I said, the leveler is simple in theory as it really just simulates being able to place shims under your camera or tripod. However, unlike shims, absent changing the settings, or bumping into, and thus moving, the tripod, the camera will stay at your settings indefinitely. Because this is an accessory made of aluminum and machined/assembled for longevity, settings can be easily changed or reproduced with a simple set of dial settings - a process far better than can be attained with shims in different location settings. As such I think this is a marvelous addition to my camera equipment which will allow me to repetitively get the level photos I want more often than when I didn't have such a device.
