I needed something bigger than needle files for small woodworking project and these were perfect for that. I wasn't sure what to expect since the product listing doesn't have closeup photos of the files, but when I got them, it was exactly what I needed. They are well made and high quality.

They work very well, which is the most important thing for a file. These particular ones are medium cut, but they offer others as well, with the color of the pouch as well as the colored handle tips easily indicating which "grit" you're grabbing so you don't have to look too close to know which one you're going for; I quite like the color coding personally, if you're going to be using multiple files. There's larger sets available but this one already covers a lot of needs with common shapes: flat, round, square, half-round, and triangle. You can tackle a lot of jobs with those. If you like the feel of larger handles or being able to make your own, these may not be for you since they come with just a flat vinyl-dipped handle instead of a tang, but on the flip side there's no need to also purchase a handle, these are ready to go out of the box. The smaller handle shape can also make it easier sometimes to get in tighter spots, along with their approximate 8" overall (handle included) length -- a great in-between size for when the big files are too big, but needle files are too small.I would happily recommend these.

I have tons of files and tons of this brand of files and these are some of my favorites they just work and hold up. For the price you can’t beat them!

I am never unimpressed with Japanese tool makers. They just... care. The quality and dedication of their work speaks for themselves the moment I just hold the tools.I bought the 5 piece Coarse set, listed on the packaging as a word that I'm afraid to type but starts with B. There's a flat, half-round, rat tail, square and triangle file included. Cutting edges are precision-grade.They were difficult to remove from the packaging, but like most new tools I coat them in a layer of mineral oil before putting them away. This prevents rust, and will make it easier to remove in the future.I am so excited to carve with these.

These files from Japan are outstanding! The steel is high quality, the machining great and very sharp. The handles are very comfortable and easy to grip. These files are far superior to less expensive offerings here from China. One note; I had to order these from the Japan Amazon site but delivery was considerably faster than anticipated and included in the price. Highly recommended quality product.

I use these on wood primarily and they work very, very well. I'm near certain that Stew Mac relabels these at a markup because they're near identical to my Stew Mac files, though this particular set, being the "rough" set, is in fact a bit rougher than the Stew Mac files, which are probably more of a medium-to-fine cut. This is fine with me because I was looking for something equivalent that cut just a bit faster and these are exactly that.Note that these are small files for detail work. They're not quite needle files, but they aren't the full-size files as you'd get from the hardware store. Again, that's exactly what I was after, so these have been perfect for me.

I use files almost always only on metal. I got the 5 file set of fine ones. Brand new these are very sharp and have a very aggressive "bite". All the files are double cut, so the action is not as fine as I'd like but so far, I like them a lot. Will have to see how the files break in over time, I bet the aggressive action will settle into a long lived perfect action. Based on this experience I'll probably get another set or two.Considering what's happened in the world of files - Nicolson basically turning into global junk, so-so Asian imports, mediocre Spanish, super high priced Swiss, these are a super bargain, get them while you can. I would love it if there were an extra fine single cut set available.

Tsubosan ST00501 Files, Set of 5, Course Cut (Bastard Cut,) 8.5” long. - This is an excellent miniature file set. They are substantially larger than needle files at 8.5” length, compared to about 5.5” for needle files. These 5-sets come in three grit sizes - course, medium and fine. The teeth cut very sharp and very consistently, and they don’t load up. The handles are rubber coated and well balanced. The files are light weight and small enough to fit into tight areas. They are very high quality, precision files, made by Tsubosan, one of the top file makers in Japan (not China.) As another reviewer put it, “You won’t find this quality at Harbor Freight.” They are a great pleasure to use for detail work and smaller projects. I make hand-carved wooden chains, and these work perfectly for them! If you want a full range of grits, order all three 5-sets - ST00501 Course, ST00502 Medium and ST00503 Fine.
