Worth every penny. Nice hard wood, loud sound, super fun with the scalloped end, makes for more variation in rhythm.

Quality hardwood. Large size. Nice deep tone. Nice contrast to the regular Latin American solid claves

Amazing sound. Actually you can make several tones with this one because of the hollowed-out area

Excellent quality. Perfect tok tok sound when struck in the middle with properhand cupping technique. The end of the hollow-clave tones are not as resonant as themiddle, so the alternating high low back and forth is not as resplendent asit could be, but all in all, as a standard clave, this makah african clave isbrilliant. Very solid and heavy.

the sound is low and mellow as I expected but I am able to make quite a variety of tones depending on how I hold the claves and where and how hard I strike them. great fun experimenting as these are a joy to hold and very well balanced. the wood is gorgeous and finished to perfection. now here's a twist that Tycoon didn't mention : if you take the ribbed end of the striker and slide it across the female ( clave that is ) it makes a very froglike croaking sound. there are percussion blocks that you can buy just to get this sound. this has been a very satisfying purchase - and I know I'm going to enjoy them a lot at the next drum circle ...
