Did not do what they said it would.

I use these devices for communicating with access control systems in a wide area network. They are easy to program, and very reliable.

It converts a serial port to IP-based communications. The rep for a piece of equipment told me to get one of these units instead of purchasing their $800 unit. Amazon's price was about half the other places I found to purchase, so we gave it a try. Saved about $650.

The cable that came with the unit does not support RS-485 and I had to make my own. But the unit works fine other than that.

Another good product from lantronix. This is replacing a very old lantronix device that worked for 10 years. Excellent product for IP to RS232 communication.

I've previously used the , which is now discontinued and more expensive. Since the UDS-10s I've purchased in the past all worked 24/7/365 for years without a problem (there are no moving parts and little to wear out) and I had another device with only an RS-232 port for connectivity, it was an easy decision to go for the newer model which has 100BaseT connectivity. This newer model works as expected - solidly. The web interface is intuitive and well-designed. There is a telnet interface, but I haven't needed to use it. The documentation is well-written and extensive, with probably every technical detail covered that most people will ever need. For such a relatively simple device, it's great to see a company put so much thought and effort into describing the features and how to configure them. Firmware is also upgradeable if necessary. This does what it is supposed to do, and does it well. Highly recommended.

I have used these for years. Many, many features that I do not use, but they are there if needed. Once setup they work great. I have only had to reset the configuration after a big lightning storm. Other than that it does a great job communicating over a exposed port on my router to the internet, back to my office a mile away. Allows me to remotely update and monitor the system. I have tried other lower price units, so far none have worked as well.

I have used these for years as serial print servers, connecting serial label printers at a distance from a Linux system. They're also great for industrial control. I just installed them on a bunch of humidifiers that speak 2-wire Modbus. Set them for RS485, talk at a distance over ethernet, simple.I never used any of the fancy features, but there are many. You can configure them to automatically connect outbound, for instance so one automatically connects to another. Who needs a short-haul modem? A pair of these could serve as serial line extenders on opposite sides of the planet--a 12,000 mile long serial cable.
