ESI UGM192

Extremely portable solution for microphone and guitar recording

UGM192 is an ultra mobile guitar and microphone to USB audio interface with excellent 24-bit / 192kHz / 114dB quality.

This compact device allows you to connect an electric guitar via its Hi-Z instrument input and a professional dynamic or condenser microphone directly to your PC or Mac or to many compatible mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet computers that support USB audio. The rear panel offers a stereo output that you can use for playback and for realtime input monitoring, i.e. with headphones.

This makes UGM192 the perfect companion for guitar and professional microphone recording applications on the road or in your studio. You can use it to jam with a guitar and microphone, process the signal in realtime and listen to the mix directly via headphones - no special additional devices are needed: you simply plug UGM192 between your guitar, headphones, the microphone and your computer or mobile device. Just started to working with this, but I like it! You can download the cubesis app, or just use garage band on your phone! I drive for a living and I’m on the road a lot. When I have downtime, I pull this and my guitar out and work on ideas, or just jam! Other people have commented about the small buttons. I have big fingers and I didn’t have trouble using them. The sound quality was point on, it’s easy to use, and it has many functions that allow your creativity to flow!

I've recorded in the past using the old 4 track analog recorders so this digital world of recording is starting from scratch for me. I've had this device for a couple months figuring out as much about it as I can. What I've learned is that while there is a bit of a learning curve working with this device, there is a much steeper learning curve with the software necessary to use this. This product came with software that could be downloaded for free, but half of them I wasn't able to access, which is ok because you really only need one piece of software to record. I spent a lot of time researching the best and simplest software for newbies but they all seemed too complicated for me, with some being less complex than others. The device itself works. It's impressive how much they were able to put inside this very small and portable device. As I said there's a bit of a learning curve getting this up and running with the device's software and figuring out the basics of the device to get started but once you get past all that, it's actually pretty simple to use. Given that it has two inputs, I kind of expected to be able to record two separate tracks, but it only was able to record both inputs into one track (unless I wasn't able to figure out how to have separate tracks, which is entirely possible). I should add that they didn't advertise it to be able to record two separate tracks. I think this is a great product for those looking to get their feet wet with digital recording, and definitely a great portable recording interface. And comapred to some interfaces I've seen, this is relatively inexpensive.

This interface works really well. It's small and conveniently sized. It has great sound quality and is super easy to install.

I picked this up to use w/ a small portable garage band setup I have so I can quickly get down song ideas as I'm thinking of them. It works really well - just plug it in via USB-C, plug your guitar or mic in, and you're quickly up and running. The only problem I'm having is that there's a very slight buzz that comes through the headphone jack - and it's noticible when you shift between some of the different modes. Fortunately it doens't seem to come through to the recording, but it's a little distracting once you notice it.

As my review title states, this is good quality for the price. It's easy to us as soon as you take it out of the box, and the sound quality is pretty decent, especially for the price. I think this is a good alterminative to some of the super expensive guitar mics, and I feel like the change in audio quality is not anything that most people will notice.

Very nice. This is a great little audio adapter for recording on location without a ton of heavy equipment. It feels pretty solid and well built, and the output is good enough for my needs, though it's not without its faults. The mic connector is 1/4", which might mean you require an adaptor, as is the stereo output socket. Fine if you have the right equipment, but a little limiting if you don't. Further, the buttons on the input side of the device are a real pain to push. If you have fingernails it's not so bad, but if you keep them neatly trimmed it's easier to use the tip of a key or mic jack to press them. All in all, though, this is a competent little device. I wouldn't mind recommending it.

This is reporting on my first time through using this mobile guitar mic/audio interface. Its not really intuitive. I'm having to bounce around from idea to idea to make it work. I don't like that I have to make this unit the default device for the computer. This is not the case with all audio interfaces.I was not able to get a loud enough volume when I plugged my headphones into the unit. Even when I plugged the headphones into the computer, the volume was very soft. Raising the db level from 20 to 30 gain didn't do much. When recording my guitar, even though I turned the guitar up all the way, the amplification is not enough. There may be a better way, but its just not intuitive. With this unit, all you can do is amplify and the amplification is not sufficient. There is no reverb, which is a disappointment. Most mics have an XLR plug/connector. All my mics do. I had to get a special adapter to use it. It really should be an XLR plug. And you only have a choice of a 1/4" jack for headphones. Most home headphones today are minis. The tiny little buttons are so hard to push with a thumb or finger, it requires an instrument like a screwdriver handle or something similar.
