I use it to mark my test tiles. Works just like a pencil and can be sharpened with regular pencil sharpener, which was important to me.

As other reviewers have stated, the “lead” is fairly brittle and you have to work around it to get good results; Sharpen with an Exacto knife instead of a pencil sharpener, don’t make the tip too sharp, moisten the tip to get a better line quality, etc.You don’t have to add a glaze on top, but it’s possible. The higher you fire your piece, the fuzzier your edges will become though.

It's ok, this is actually the 2nd time I've tried these Pasler black pencils. They're fine but they're not amazing. They're a bit light and hard, I had to wet the tip continuously to get it to glide remotely smoother and darker but then it's tedious and inconsistent and leave a big fat line because the tip isn't sharp.I thought this was normal for all glaze pencils til I tried the one in my community ceramics studio, it was a wood one w/ black at the end, and it was much darker and smoother with less work so that's disappointing to learn these were unusually worse and now I have 4 👀Just like the rest and FYI- needs clear top coat/glaze and only for bisqueware not for greenware ofc

I haven't fired my cup yet but I used this underglaze pencil. It's good for small detail. I'm sure like regular underglaze it will look much darker after I get it into a kiln. I never used the pencil before so it's different. It's pretty cool. Good quality. These things are always expensive but for two they seemed to have lowered the cost.It looks a little ugly but that's just me and my talent lol...

Pasler® Underglaze pencil, pottery pencil for bisque or pottery - pack of 2 blackFirst impressions: Nice set of two pencils. They can be sharpened easily with a utility knife.Installation/setup: Use on pottery that has been bisque fired but not yet glazed. Create artworks or write words or poems, as you wish. Cover with transparent glaze, colored or clear, then fire to set glaze.Final thoughts: These work great as long as you only sharpen them with a utility knife. The sharpener will break the lead too easily and it is a waste of materials too. The marks can be easily seen through most transparent glazes and gives you another way to decorate your pottery artworks. I like this and I’m glad I got them.⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, poor quality.⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, it has multiple faults, or a very high price.⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's passable, It has some faults but the quality is ok for what it is.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product quite acceptable, it does what it promises.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend.

I was a bit skeptical. But they really work. I am using them to put my initials on my pots

Just today I went to a class on Surface Design for Potter's Who Don't Draw. But heck, I CAN draw really well. While all those other techniques are interesting sometimes all I want to do is to draw on my bisqueware--anything from fully blended and shaded drawings (like the cute pug dog in their video) to guidelines for lettering or even my signature on the bottom (required by our studio) or identification of glazes used on test tiles. Remember to "erase" marks you don't want with a stump or blend to nothing with a finger because, unlike the marks from other implements, these won't burn out in the kiln.Newbies will probably get sticker shock but this price is in the ballpark of most other brands. They're available in other colors and I know I'm going to get a brown one and probably their resist film as well. The package says to use a hand knife to sharpen them--I know how to do this but many potters don't. Fortunately the video demonstrates how you can sharpen them carefully with a non-electric tool. Remember to sharpen the end opposite name imprinted on the pencil so you'll know what to reorder when yours needs to be replaced. Also remember that the "graphite" inside is actually colored clay so take great caution not to drop or knock them around (just like other soft drawing pencils which also have clay content). Every knock will break the "lead" inside and you'll not only be frustrated, you'll be wasting the material and have to replace your pencils more often.I'll have to wait to fire mine and will report if there are any unexpected results. Remember that these fire from cones 6-10 which is in line with the mid-high fire temperatures used by most potters and fine art clay sculptors. Avoid writing / drawing on items intended for food use if you don't also use a zinc free, dinnerware safe clear glaze on top.
