Bought this model for its smaller clamp size and 2 amp DC scale : was perfect to troubleshoot a 2009 Honda CRV battery power drain.

This clamp meter measures approximately seven inches long, two inches wide (not counting the lever to open the clamp, which adds another ½ and inch, and about an inch thick. As such, it smaller than most clamp meters, which would be about an inch longer and an inch wider. The meter comes packaged inside a nice storage case with a pocket for the test leads/probes.I tested this meter, along with two other devices that could read the voltage of electrical outlets. One device was with an inexpensive multimeter (from a major tool store, which sometimes offers them as premiums for free, but usually runs about $7) using test probes in the outlet. One was a $150 uninterrupted power supply (UPS) or battery backup for my computer which has a constant on digital display of the input voltage and is plugged into the outlet. I tested the UNI-T UT210e Mini Digital Clamp Meter using the test probes in the wall outlet, and I tested the same outlet using the clamp portion of the meter, combined with an AC line splitter. As a side note, if you are not familiar with clamp meters, you cannot use the clamp to measure the current running through a hot electrical cord. That is because the cord will have electricity running both ways through the cord and the signal from the positive wire will be canceled out by the negative wire, so you’ll have no reading at all. You must clamp just the positive side of the cord, which requires separating the positive and negative wires. But, if you do not want to remove the insulation and split the wires within the cord, you need to have an AC line splitter to determine the voltage running through the cord.Anyway, I digress a bit. First, the clamp meter, utilizing the clamp with an AC line spitter, read 117 – 118 volts. The cheap multimeter, using test probes in the outlet, read 118v. The UPS battery backup display read 120 – 122 volts, while the clamp meter, using the test probes, read 120 – 124 volts. My summation is that the clamp meter is accurate, but I believe it is more accurate using the probes than the clamp, while using an AC line splitter. I did not test it with just a single positive hot wire. The clamp meter is turned on by a dial with six different settings. Turning the dial all the way down turns it off. I did notice that when you press and hold the “Hold” button, for approximately two seconds, it will activate the backlit feature. According to my stopwatch, the auto shutoff on the backlit display last 15 seconds. In my thinking this is a little short for operating under any darkened conditions. The instruction manual says, “Do not use clamp meter in circuit with voltage higher than 600v this or frequency higher than 400Hz.” The standard for households in the United States is 120V and 60Hz AC electricity, so if you are using this around your home, it should present no issues.Overall, a great buy for those projects around the house.

This is quite an upgrade from my old - but reliable fluke meter. I like the non-contact voltage detector and the clamp measurement for current use. In comparing the meter with the fluke, the values were the same.I was initially a bit concerned that it wasn't UL listed but it is certified by Intertek. It also seems that UNI-T has quite a bit of respect out there for their meters. I can see why.
