You really need this to be able to program the switch it is used with. Maybe the default setup will cover you but the switch is so configurable that it gets unlikely. It adds cost but you can program supported doodad after doodad with it.But what I really like about this is the way they leveraged the WiFi access point capability to serve up switch configuration as a web page. Just pick this as your hot spot and point your browser. It gives you a nice graphical user interface to the device you want to configure but also serves as a powerful model for what can be done with this technology. Very cool.And it worked great!

This little programmer is underwhelming at first glance, but it works great. You need a micro USB cord (not included) in order to power it. And it creates its own wifi to communicate with your phone when you program it.

Product works as described. Giving 2 stars because this thing shouldn't be needed. Previous version of the relay was programmable completely standalone.

The old versions of these timers didn't need this programmer, but programming them the old way could be a bit confusing. Easy, but a bit confusing. This new programmer tool makes the timers much easier to program. You will still need to follow the instructions they have posted on the internet to get the hang of it, but it is truly easier. My first time with this programmer and I had it all finished in maybe 10 minutes. I love these timers.
