We had an older fireplace remote that had stopped working despite the batteries being good. This not only came quickly, but was not only a replacement, but an update for sure. You need 4 AA batteries for the receiver and 2 AAA batteries for the transmitter. Install was an absolute breeze - took about 15 minutes overall. However, this is likely because I already had a light switch box in the wall for the old remote.The buttons are nice and reactive and the responsive "beep" from the unit certainly helps to ensure the selection is registered. The temperature sensor on the remote is easy to set and foes a great job turning the fireplace on as needed. Another "neat" thing is that it comes with a little clip you can screw into the wall and hang the remote from for easy storage - especially in the summer when you won't be using it.Overall, I think this unit is great for your gas fireplace, either as an upgrade or a new addition. Great value for the money and certainly will allow you to continue sitting on the couch and make the room warmer or add the fireplace glow!

Works as described right out of the box. I had a previous remote already wired up, so I didn't need to hook up the two leads, but to hook them up is extremely simple, just follow the instructions. Installed the batteries and the remote is already paired, so you can either just power it on and off with the remote, or you can set the thermostat on the remote and it will run just like a thermostat in your house. However, the thermostat is in the remote, so keep it where you want the temperature to be set at. So don't just drop the remote next to the fireplace or only that area will be that warm, everywhere else will be colder. But also don't take it to another room either, or that room will get quite toasty!! The remote is easy to read and pretty easy to use, again, just read the instructions and you will be good to go!
