Failed after sampling 12 bales: the drive shaft that fits into the drill chuck came out. Turns out it’s only friction fit—not welded. The discharge portal is also too far forward, allowing grass to pack into the back of the sampling tube, and the 90° shoulder at the back of the cutting bit makes extraction very difficult on tightly packed bales. Moreover, a small lip inside and just behind the cutting teeth made insertion more difficult. Chamfering that lip and the external shoulder would make this much more servicable, and the drill shaft plug should be welded in place.
