Upper Top Basket for Fleck, Clack, and Autotrol Valves which installs on the bottom of control valves to help prevent media getting pushed into plumbing due to pressure bursts or incorrect plumbing. Used for 1.05" Diameter Distributor tubes. Twist-On Style - The twist-on basket has tabs that lock into place when the basket is inserted and twisted. Some older baskets only pushed in and don't have the tabs that allow it to be twisted and locked into place. The Top Distributor Basket is a twist on style for Fleck, Clack, and Autotrol valves that fits a standard riser tube of 1.05" diameter. This top distributor basket is designed to prevent any of the media from exiting your mineral tank.

Bought a whole house filter system years ago and it never worked right. I changed the media and it kept getting into the filter head because the basket did not fit the Fleck head. This one locked in perfect and no issues since.

This is not a genuine Fleck or Clack upper distributor but it will work with softener or backwash units manufatured after 1997. It is suitable for standard or fine mesh. Be sure to put silicone grease on your distributor O-ring before attaching because it is a little difficult to take off, once in place. To attach, just push it into the bottom of the Fleck or Clack unit and twist it until it locks in place. An upper distributor is almost essential for keeping water softener resins and lightweight media from getting into your water lines and faucets.

When I purchased a rebuilt Autotrol 255 valve unit, I decided to replace the distributor pipe as well. This upper basket fit perfectly.

The basket on my water softener riser tube collapsed, allowing softener resin into all of my water piping. It took 12 hours to clear the lines, and fortunately I was able to do it myself. Since I have to re-bed the softener, I purchased one of these baskets. If your softener is under too much pressure, the filter basket can deform, allowing the resin beads into your house piping. The basket can also become brittle over time, especially if you have a high concentration of chloramines in the water, which is the case with many municipal water supplies. If you have a water softener and suddenly lose all of the water pressure in one or more of your inside faucets, but the outside hose bibbs still work, you likely have resin in the system. If you put the softener in bypass mode and still have a problem, it's almost certainly a resin breakout. Look online for information about how to clear the lines. It's a major pain and very frustrating, because you have to check and clear EVERYTHING THAT HAS A WATER SUPPLY - sinks, tubs, toilets, dishwasher, refrigerator, washing machine. You also have to drain and flush your water heater. Now if you turn on a faucet or shower and have good flow, but then it quickly drops off, your softener resin may just be in need of replacing. If you put the softener in bypass mode and your pressure is restored, that is definitely the case. It is not difficult to re-bed a softener yourself, just time-consuming. So I highly recommend you replace the upper basket as long as you have the system pulled apart. It is a good idea to check your house water pressure periodically, just by hooking up a water gauge to a hose bibb. If your pressure is above 80 PSI, you are more likely to encounter pressure-related problems in the house. And in the case of a water softener, you want to prevent a resin breakout, not clean up after one.So, rule of thumb - if you are re-bedding your softener, ALWAYS replace the riser tube with filters. You do NOT want to go through what I did.

I purchased a DIY water softener kit with the fleck 5600 head. Been using it for a few years but noticed the soft water wasn't lasting as long as when it was new. Thought maybe the resin had worn out. Took the head unit off and looked inside the resin tank. There was maybe half the resin in it as when it was new. After doing some research I discovered that the upper basket was never included. Every time the system regenerates, water flows up through the bottom and agitates the resin up inside the resin tank. If you don't have this screen at the top, the resin can get flushed out when it's back washing. I'm pretty sure that's what happened to my system. This part fit perfectly into the bottom of the power head. The riser tube slides up inside it. This is a part you absolutely have to have otherwise you're going to lose resin.
