I use these to dim 5mm LEDs. I have also used larger potentiometers for the same purpose. The larger ones have a linear drop off, and go from 100% to 40% brightness very smoothly. These smaller models go from 100% to 20% when you turn them a couple degrees, and the remaining range takes it to zero. This makes it hard to get any brightness between 20% and 100% and requires very fine adjustments. Due to the rapid drop off over a short range, there is a slight flicker from any vibrations. Not ideal if you need a fixed resistance once set. Still, for their size and price, they are pretty good.
