What a waste of money... it didn't work at all, and the seller didn't pay shipping fees so the whole experience cost me $65. Stay away!

I wired 8 of these in my office to a single switch that I can turn on and off. They work perfectly down the hallway and I can now have private conversations in my office without employees hearing. They drop in perfectly in a 2 x 2 ceiling panel. There is a very small volume knob that you need to use a small flat head screwdriver to change the volume. They come from the factory turned all the way down. Be careful as this is just a plastic knob and could easily break. This knob is accessible in one of the corners through the grill near the nameplate. See my pictures.

We installed these throughout our office when we updated the space. These speakers effectively create white noise that keeps conversations from being overheard and also eliminates distractions. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars is that we have received several that didn't work and had to be returned. I think Valcom needs better quality conrol for this good product.

We bought three. One quit working after a month and a half, and another is so loud that we can't use it. There is no way to turn the sound down. The third is working fine.

I bought 2 of the for the office and really wanted these to work out because the price and how well they fit in the ceiling tile area but the volume control was extremely poorly made. Didn't work at all on one and broke quickly on the other. Had to send them back

The information I was able to find online about this product is not very thorough, so I will provide some additional detail in this review to help others. The item appears to be a large piece of foam covered with a white metal grill on the bottom to fit in a 2' x 2' ceiling grid. There is a small speaker mounted in the one corner of the unit, above the grill. The entire unit is not a speaker, just the one small portion. The top of the unit has a junction box and power wires. It also includes a plug and a power adapter that can be used in a standard outlet. However, to utilize this, you first need to wire the plug to the loose wires in the junction box. It is easy to do but does not come pre-assembled. All of the accessories are included EXCEPT you will need two small wire nuts.Once you complete the wiring, you can plug the power adapter in and the speaker produces a medium level of white noise. There is no volume control, it is only set at the one level. You will need to have an outlet available above ceiling to have a location to plug the unit it. Or you can plug it in elsewhere and run extended wiring to the unit, but this would require additional supplies that are not included (and to make sure you are meeting code, you would likely want to have the assistance of a electrician). The fixed volume level of the speaker produces enough noise that it is appropriate for a small space. If you are covering a larger area, not just a specific location in a space, you will want to purchase multiple units. Each will then need its own outlet or other means to plug in. You could space them anywhere from 6' to 10' on center depending on how much white noise coverage you want in the space.I was glad that when the box arrived it included everything I needed to complete and operate the unit, because that was not entirely clear in the product description. However it would have been nice if they had provided notice that you need wire nuts to complete the wiring. The unit does look good in the ceiling, it blends in well with white ceiling tile. You could get a less expensive solution for white noise and with better volume control by purchasing a desk top white noise machine for $30-40, but if you really want an in-ceiling solution (and don't want to pay several thousand for a full system), the VALCOM unit is a good way to go.
