Product Description

Vertical Cable 059-484/CMX

This Cat 5e unshielded twisted pair ( utp ) uv jacket cable is a high performance data communication cable suitable for 350mhz high speed data applications. It has excellent attenuation and crosstalk characteristics and exceeds TIA/EIA-568-C.2 specification. With its uv resistant jacket, this ethernet cable is designed for outdoor installations where resistance to sun rays is important. This cable is verified by ETL to be type CMX. The wires are 24 awg in size and are made of solid bare ( pure ) copper conductors. All 4 pairs are easily identified by color stripes. The insulation material is PE and the jacket material is LLDPE. This cable is supplied in 1000 ft pull box and sequential length markings are printed on the jacket.

While it will take years to know how long this cable lasts, under the southern California sunshine, I have been pleased with all aspects of this cable. I work alone so it's important to me that the cable pulls nicely from the box! And electronic performance has been splendid; though I have not stress-tested cable performance analytically. Simply put: IT WORKS.

We originally thought the domed CCTV cameras were dying. The video became fuzzy and often died during the Southern heat. BUT, after installing a new camera, we saw no improvement. Ultimately we determined that the original cable could not withstand the heat. Everything worked perfectly after installing 300 feet of this cable.

Ran a bunch of ethernet all over while updating the house, including outside, and this stuff is solid. Very durable, doesn't kink easily, and sturdy wiring. Never had a bad connection over 100's of feet while being sensible throughout the install. Plenum is the way to go. My complaint would be I wish the white wasn't 3x more expensive as it would have looked nicer, but I white electric taped the most obvious spots so it's all good.

Seems to be good quality. I have had this "same" cable installed on outdoor overhead runs (wrapped on a messenger cable for physical support) for three-four years with no problems (other than one cable segment that was damaged by lighting).I recently purchased another 1000' box of this supposedly same cable, and have had that installed for only about a month (with no known problems so far). I did notice some subtle differences in the newer box of cable versus the older one, though:1. The color band of the striped conductor in each twisted pair is very thin and faint, making them more difficult to identify/distinguish, compared to the older batch.2. The cable jacket is different than on the older batch: It is glossier, more flexible, and seems "looser". The main thought here is whether the jacket material is a different formulation, leading to uncertainty about how it may hold up to the UV and weather over time (in comparison to the older batch). My other concern is that the relative looseness and flexibility of the jacket might allow the contained wires to "shift around" when the cable moves, thus affecting the signal characteristics.3. Also, the jacket material seems to be tougher than the jacket on the older batch, probably making it more resistant to abrasions, but also making it more difficult to strip (for termination).4. The ink of the on-jacket labels (including the length markers) rubs of easily (while the ink on the older batch did not rub off at all). Installation-wise, the ink rub-off was mainly a problem in regards to the loss or distortion of the length markers.Hopefully, the new batch will hold up and perform as well as the older batch did.

I purchased this to use with a new IP-based security system from LaView (see my review) instead of the Cat5 cable bundles that came with the system and I have to say it is great cable at a terrific price. It's well shielded from the elements, not as bulky as Siamese cable (old analog security system) and is very easy to snake through openings. After I stripped the cover and straightened out the wires, I made my connector fittings easily. I ran cables for 12 cameras in one day without a hitch and have not had any issues with video quality with any of them.

I have purchased and used two cases of this solid copper Cat5e cable and have been extremely pleased with it. Both boxes were used to install surveillance cameras (Hikvision to be exact), all Powered Over Ethernet (POE). Some of the wire has been exposed to the sun and elements and some of it is in conduit, both which have been working perfectly. The wire is a little thicker than indoor rated cat5e cable but not hard to snake. It's solid copper wire (NOT Copper Clad Aluminum) which is much preferred over CCA and the wire is marked so that you know how much you have used. My Klein Tools crimper has no issues crimping on RJ45 jacks and the colors on the wires are easy to see and distinguish between them.I will continue to buy this cable and will update as time goes on, but I do not foresee any issues. I recommend this cable to anyone looking for outdoor cat5e cable.
