Worked ok for 5 days and now today, won’t capture anything to USB. Passes video out, sort of, albeit in a really horrid way. Don’t buy.

When I ordered this video capture card, I wasn't expecting much due to the price point. However, after using it for a few weeks, I absolutely stunned the functionality, quality, and ease of use of the device. I used Microsoft Clipchamp built into Windows 11 to do the captures. I connected the device to a USB port on my laptop and an HDMI source to the device. Windows 11 automatically installed the device, and no additional drivers were needed. In Clipchamp, I chose Record & Create > Camera > USB Video and then hit the record button to start the recording. Recordings were flawless and the quality was very good at 1080P. I couldn't believe how easy it was to use and the great quality of the videos it captures.I only had two minor complaints:1) When the source HDMI device is off and is not sending any video, the device displays color bars. If you are doing a recording and power cycle the device that is connected to the HDMI port, it captures the color bars. I wish there was an option to display the screen in a single color like black instead when there is no signal coming from the HDMI source.2) The description mentions 4K support. This only means that it will accept a 4K device as a source, but it doesn't record at 4K. If you read the product descriptions, it does properly disclose this, but it is a bit misleading to put 4K in the product title when it can't actually record in 4K.Despite these two minor issues, I am still giving the product 5 stars due to how good it performed. I absolutely recommend this great bargain for a video capture device. One related note - when capturing in Clipchamp, the video will display as "mirrored" when capturing. This is normal and expected for Clipchamp and not any issue with the device. My understanding is that Clipchamp does this because it thinks the device is a camera, and if someone held up a sign to a camera, it wouldn't be readable unless the video was mirrored. However, the resulting video capture is not mirrored and comes out as expected.

So it does not allow you to use it without power through the USB. I thought it could oh well hehe. I was surprised that it came with a carrying case, a nice one at that. The USB that it came with mine is a USB 2.0 not a USB 3.0 or higher. I don't think that... I just looked it up and they do make a USB b 3.0 and it will accept that USB b type. You can use the Mic in Jack to capture audio from the headphone/ audio jack that has a green ring or use a microphone too.

Most videos say you can’t connect HDMI to Thunderbolt/USB C. Now you can with this little guy. Pretty impressed so far with ease of use. Only problem is detectability. You have to download an outside capture software. There is a free one that is suggested in the instructions called OBS studio. Its great to get started but has pretty much no editing use. iMovie does not detect this capture device so you have to import. Not sure what other capture softwares will work with it but I will be giving others a try for sure. Otherwise its kind of revolutionary with its HDMI to Thunderbolt capability. And its adaptable is whats great.
