This telescope comes in a decorative wooden box- and looks completely authentic as if it were an actual artifact! And the best part is it actually works! I thought it would be an interesting choice of decor, and if you ever need it - you can use it as well. What a great conversation piece. If you let this sit on a dusty shelf for 10 years I wouldn't be able to tell you if it was there for 10 or 100 years, it really looks like it could be the real thing from the 1800s. The build quality is amazing for this being a reproduction, even down to the specific type of felt used in the box, it just has a vintage feel to it. Its like something you would expect to find in a footlocker in the basement of an old tallship marina. Really cool product. Oh and the best part is, it actually functions. Super cool and well executed product.

Did I need this? No. But it’s cool looking. I selected this item based on the reviews. They were correct: this is not a simple cosplay item. The quality and craftsmanship and attention to detail are all very good.The wooden box it comes in is well made, looks nice and offers good protection for this item as the inside is velvet lined.The telescope itself is focused just like those seen in pirate movies: extend or shorten. This is awkward. Fooling around real quick I was able to see houses on the next street over. It’s case is made of metal and has a cap attached by chain for protecting the lens. It has a good heft in the hand, not like a cheap costume accessory.The size & box allows for portability in a car, boat or backpack allowing for use on the go. The aesthetics are nice enough to allow for display or cosplay if that’s your goal.

Item:Vintage Nautical Handheld Brass Telescope with Wood Box - Nautical Captain Spyglass TelescopePackaging:Packaging was really good. The item was sealed in plastic and wrapped in bubble wrap. The telescope was also wrapped with packing material inside the wooden box and the lens was protected with a cover.Material Quality:The telescope is made of metal, I suppose it could be brass. The box is wooden with metal clasps and hinges and some brass trim pieces.Assembly/Build Quality:The telescope seems well made. It has some good weight to it so it feels very solid. It telescopes smoothly and the end cap stays on securely. I cannot really speak to the quality of the lenses. While it does magnify, this is not really meant to be a real practical telescope but rather a decorative item. The box is solidly made and has some weight to it as well. The only issue I had is that the felt material inside the box had come loose on one side of the top. I was able to push it back into place but I don’t know how long it will last for.Marketing Material:The images posted with this listing (at the time of this review) represent the product well. There is no misrepresenting here and everything is as it looks in the picture.Functionality:As a telescope it actually does function, though I cannot say how good the optics actually are. The box is solid and latches shut well.Price:This item is listed (at the time of this review) for $37.70. This price seems to be in line with other similar products.Likes:I like the overall look of both the telescope and the box.Dislikes:Not really much to dislike hereOverall:I would recommend this item if you are looking for a tasteful and functional decorative piece or conversation piece. It would make a good gift to anyone who likes to explore or sale. The price is not bad and the quality of the build is really good.
