One of my cats tends to get anxiety around one of other cats, causing her to attack at times. I did some research with a cat behaviorist and it was recommended to try Anxitane due to its calming capabilities, plus it doesn't require a prescription from a veterinarian. The pills are easy to break up and seem to have a taste that my cat didn't mind, so it was consumed very easily by mixing it into her wet food. However, despite using it for some weeks, there were no noticeable changes to her behavior or mood. I'm sure it may work for some cats, but not in my instance.

Used on advice of behaviour therapist. Noticed small differences in cat behaviour. Too early for comprehensive review.

I have two senior cats who have medical issues that cause them to be anxious and/or restless. One cat will eat the chewable tablets as if they are treats. I put it on the floor and he gobbles it up.The other cat will not eat it. I crushed it and put it in wet food (he wouldnt eat it) and I tried putting it in a squeezable treat that has a gravy consistency. He is such a picky eater than he usually wouldnt eat all of it so the tablet was wasted. Considering the price, and the fact that when he did eat some of it, it didnt seem to be effective, I stopped trying to give it to him. CBD oil works better on him.The product does seem to be helping the other cat but it wasnt instantaneous. I dosed him for 3 days before I noticed a difference.Given the cost, I may not purchase another box. I have just as good luck with CBD oil and its much more cost effective.

UPDATE: Company changed their formula and it now smells horrible and gives my cat diarrhea. The product information included is no longer accurate. They are shipping something different. After moving to a new home last spring, a couple months later my cat Fred started throwing up weekly (or more). After a round of diagnostics, new prescription food, an ultrasound, and more diagnostics, my vet and I think that his anxiety is playing a roll (at least in part). I started Fred on Anxitane in Dec 2022 and after 2 months, he a new cat. He is no longer hiding most of the day. He comfortable hangs out and sleeps throughout the house and has started watching birds and squirrels again. He does not eat these on their own, but will in a pill pocket or even easier is I crush into his morning and evening food. To optimize the L-Theanine dosage for him I do supplement these with PetHonest Calming Treats. These pills are 50mg/day and after trying a couple different things, his ideal does is about 64 mg/day. Days when I'm expecting company, I will give him a few extra. I don't expect that these will ever change him enough to not be scared of new people since he was abused early in his life.A couple things to keep in mind if you're thinking about trying them. I did see some change early on, but two months was the sweet spot. There are various calming products with L-Theanine. Anxitane seems to have the highs mg per treat/dose, so if you've tried other calming treats with no luck this one may be better. While these are on the more expensive side, the relief Fred has from them are well worth it.

NOTE: After reading previous reviews, I feel I must say, it’s a medication designed to work over time and needs to be taken regularly to keep working. It’s NOT designed to be a one and done pill or an as needed pill, as it needs to get into your pet’s system in order to benefit from it. AND continuously administered to keep benefitting from it.I rescue senior cats from my local humane society and took in a 16 yr old black cat named Sweet Pea. I have 3 other cats and, after the transition period, he was urinating through my home on my rugs and aggressive to my other cats. I took him for full blood work and the results were fine so my vet recommended I try Anxitane. It took about 5-7 days for me to see the 180 turn around on Sweet Pea. It’s a miracle!! After a yr of him being aggressive and urinating, he doesn’t urinate anymore (outside his box) and he’s really living up to his name. He’s been taking it for almost a yr now and still doing great! There was a time that I was getting lax on giving him his regular twice a day pills and he relapsed into urinating and being aggressive again. So I make sure to give it to him regularly. He’s such a happy, sweet boy when he’s on his “happy pills”. Aren’t we all?! Hehe!

Given daily to a feral rescue cat. Although still very timid, she has definitely gained a little more confidence since taking these tablets. They break easily into two and mix in with her breakfast nuts. She eats them readily so they must taste good. They're never left at the bottom of the bowl!

I never write reviews - but because you have to give it to your beloved pet, I wanted to write something to ensure the quality and effectiveness to any other potential buyers. Here's my story (uber stressed out story...) I've flown my two cats when I moved from FL to NJ & gave them benedryl (I'll never do that again!) so when I was given the chance to move back to good ol' Florida I was beyond stressed with the idea of two cats traveling in my car for two days with an overnight stay at a cheap motel. I took the advice of many forums and I researched a TON... I bought the Virbac Anxitane S and gave both cats half a pill 12 hours prior to driving (without food and water) another pill 2 hours prior to driving and then I'd continue giving them half pills as recommended. Believe it or not - My cats actually ate the damn things with normal crunchy treats.. no spit outs or shoving it down their throats, Extremely impressed with this product for that effect alone! I also took the advice and bought a med. sized dog cage, a med. size bed, along with two leashes. Covered the cage with a dark colored blanket and the cats were still scared, so we flipped the dog bed upside down so they could "hide". fell asleep the ENTIRE TRIP!! no meows, nothing.... I can't say anything bad about these pills. Next time I travel or bring them into a new environment - I'll be sure to use these again. I kept giving them the medicine every 12 hours for 2 additional days to help them not get stressed in our new apartment.
