My guinea pigs love this Sun Salad Treat. I've been buying it in the triple pack for a few years. My only concern is I'm finding it harder to find it available on Amazon. I don't know if it is the result of demand being greater than supply. In any case, so long as I can find the product I will continue ordering it. My two girls, Buttercup and Trixie, look forward to having this treat every afternoon. Just a tablespoon each daily is sufficient. One thing that I've noticed over the past two years is Vitakraft has replaced the grape sized rose hips with smaller pods. Guinea pigs have to have vitamin C supplements and rose hips help fill the bill. But the girls just couldn't chew through those huge seed pods. So I thank Vitakraft for that improvement. The downside? The product is rather pricey. I look for it to be on sale on Amazon and pick up several 10 oz. bags when the price is around $9.00. The price can range up to $14.00 a bag. So look for it to be on sale. On the other hand this is not guinea pig feed. It's a treat. A 10 oz bag will last me for a week. When I look at the situation from that perspective the treat costs me $1.30 per day. The girls love it so I have to find the bright side of the coin, right? :)

It's been difficult to find the Sun Salad locally, so my girls were pleased I found this vendor for their favorite treat! Delivery was quick and pricing right. Note that there are different formulas for this product: one is for rabbits, this one is for guinea pigs. The manufacturer did not respond to my inquiry if they can be fed interchangeably, and I don't.

My guinea pigs loved this stuff--so much that I regularly gave it to them mid-day. Nice blend of "salad"that got gobbled up. I would purchase a 3-pack each time, which was more economical. Gradually, the price went up, while I noticed the cavies would leave a substantial part of it each day: hard pellets; hard, big pieces of dehydrated carrots; and big "rose hips" they NEVER ate, and would likely choke them. Now, I see that it's $9. per bag, out of which there's about 4 servings for my two wheekers. Just not a good buy any more. I'd love to see the original, healthier-looking mix that got consumed with great gusto, AND atan affordable price (the three pack then would be around $22).

This is so delicision for my guinea pigs, they are going crazy when I give this treat for them. I would love to have less carrots as my piggies do not like it so much and it's always left over.

We've had other forage salad mix before and my 2 Guinea Pigs really enjoy it. Purchased Sunseed as their usual brand wasn't available. Most of it just ended up on the bottom of their cage, un-eaten. Won't buy again.

My pet will rush over to eat some of the stuff, but will not eat all parts of this trail mix. Overall it is a great product. I would rate it 5 stars because it is good. I think that these items are nutritious, but I really dont know since i never studied veterinaryian dietary items for small animals. (I hope it is!) However it is on the pricey side for the small quantity provided. Anyway, after I feed it, my little pet comes up, curls next to me, purrs, and goes to sleep. How nice.

Occasionally I splurge on my single, solitary guinea pig, who can look bored, lonely and forlorn in his basement cage. (A guinea pig's blank look is anything you wish to make of it.) This item is yet another example of the extravagance I push upon the little piece of livestock in my domicile--a small bag of dried veggies, fruits and spices that's too pricey to use on a regular basis and, moreover, inferior to the appeal and nutritional value of fresh, "real" vegetables. (Sparky eats better than I, though his distaste for kale and cilantro forces me to indulge uncharacteristically in high-end, health-fad foods, which were intended for his table, not mine.)By now this well-fed, mostly content chunky monkey is so spoiled by my largesse (I rarely hear any "wheeking" from him) that he'll frequently decide to show no interest in a treat that, the previous week, had been the exclusive object of his affection. I suspect that much the same will occur with this product--which is the only dry, "non-fresh" treat that has elicited genuine enthusiasm from him (unlike many owners, I see Timothy hay not as a "treat" but as an omnipresent "given" for any resident rodent-vegan).. So I plan to wait a couple of months before his next bag of Prima Sun Salad Treat, which he consumed in the very first week. One warning: the makers of this small-critter salad have come up with some ingredient that gives out a pungent and spicey aroma that small animals seem to find irrestible. But the product's makers are equally sensitive to ensuring that this eight-dollar concoction (in a bag that's relatively small) will excite the sensory organs of its human purchasers as well. In fact, If you have a taste for "anise," or candy licorice, you may be tempted to try a dried leaf or hardened berry for yourself. (The aroma evokes exotic and pricey cosmopolitan liquers like Italy's "Galliano" and France's "Pernod.") But control yourself--don't even sniff it. And don't attempt to smoke it! Soon you could be ordering two bags on a weekly basis while your pet takes on a look of seething resentment.
