I've had my bit for only a few months and while the mouth is beginning to rust (like it should being sweet iron), so are the black steel cheeks, which is NOT a good thing. The joints are beginning to get a fair amount of rust buildup in spite of my cleaning and upkeep efforts. I have to keep them oiled so they don't squeak whenever I use it. I am beginning to wonder how long it will be before this bit is useless because the cheeks begin to really have sticky movement due to the rust. I will not make the mistake of buying a jointed cheek bit when the cheeks are not stainless steel.I can buy a bit that is just as well balanced as this one with stainless cheeks for a lower price tag. The stainless cheeks stay looking good longer and they last forever.The only good thing I can say about this bit is that my horse's seemed to like it, even if I don't.I would advise against buying this bit. If you want one in this style, I strongly suggest you look at one of these instead.
