I have used the Whaley grade books for three years now, but the one I just ordered (black cover with 2 lines) has a cover that is little more than card stock instead of a thick, durable plastic covers that I'm used to. I am really, really disappointed because these books have to hold up to a year's worth of hard usage. I think I may send it back and see if I can find an older version on Ebay or something. It looks like the difference is that a new company took over in 2019 called SDI Innovations from Indiana rather than Action publishing in Colorado.

I just received the grade book yesterday, so I have not yet used it. It looks very simple to use. I teach HS and we have 4 blocks but my classes are skinny classes. That means I have 6 classes each day. There is plenty of room to do attendance and grades for all my classes for our 9 week semesters, for the entire school year.

This is the solution I have Gould to document attendance and participation. In parent conference I pull out the book and parents see just how their student is doing. Some students have a string of tardiness and poor participation, but most do their best to keep the slate clean. With online attendance taking it can be difficult to keep a hard record for reference, but this gets the job done very well.The three line is also great but it only has 24 slots and my classes are larger than that and I hate flipping pages.
