Introducing the New Standard Wii Controller

The Wii Remote Plus Controller is the new standard controller for the Wii gaming system, shipping with new Wii systems as well as available for individual purchase. Like the original Wii Remote before it, this new controller utilizes a triple axis accelerometer along with a built-in optical sensor that works in conjunction with the Wii sensor bar. Together this enables the recognition of player movement as well as gives the controller the ability to act as a pointing device used in-game. Yet what really sets the Wii Remote Plus controller apart is its incorporation of additional gyroscope technology.

Wii Remote Plus gyroscope technology provides on-the-fly rotational motion recognition, once available only to Wii players who purchased the additional Wii MotionPlus accessory for the Wii Remote. The Wii Remote Plus controller contains all these motion-capturing capabilities within the body of a single controller. To top it off the Wii Remote Plus controller maintains the same compatibility to games as the Wii Remote, so you can play most of your old favorites with it. It is also the same size as the Wii remote. Taken together this means no more extra accessories to buy in order to experience the full effect of past or future games designed to take advantage of advanced Wii MotionPlus technology; no more compatibility issues with existing Wii Remote peripherals and skins. Just sync up your Wii Remote Plus controller and have at it.

Key Features

  • Moving forward the Wii Remote Plus is the standard Wii controller, shipping with all consoles
  • Incorporates the functionality of the original Wii Remote and that of the Wii MotionPlus accessory in a single controller

The controller was in fine shape and it works. The only thing to quibble about is the excess tape surrounding the bubble wrapped remote. Other than that, very happy with the vendor.

When the Wii first came out, the controllers did not have the full motion sensors they have now. You can either get an add-on for those old style controllers - or you can get a new, integrated Wii Remote Plus Controller. We have numerous controllers lying around the house. Some are in that initial no-motionplus state. Some have the add-on stuck onto them, which makes them fairly bulky. When one of our old controllers began to fail, I decided to order a new all-in-one controller that had the MotionPlus built into it. I'm very glad I did!The new controller is the same size as the original controller, so they were able to stuff all the extra electronics inside the same smaller unit. This is great for long term gameplay. Your arm doesn't get tired moving the controller around, and it's easier to do fine control with it.The built in gyroscope means you have much better control over your characters and activities compared with the original basic remote. If you're playing a game, you definitely want the Wii to react precisely to what you do! It is quite annoying to die because your controller didn't register the movement you made. I've been very pleased with the responsiveness of this unit.It even comes with charged batteries and a rubber skin. I always have all my Wii controllers skinned - it makes it so much easier to hold onto them during long gameplay sessions. So both were highly appreciated.I do have to say, as an aside, that we use all rechargeable batteries in our controllers so we're not continually throwing batteries into our waste stream. It's better for the environment to recharge existing batteries. So while I appreciate them providing the batters from a consumer support standpoint, long term I do recommend that players use rechargeable batteries to help our environment. So, that being said, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I got this one in black so mine would stand out from the other remotes in the house. My new black remote was promptly claimed by my boyfriend as his own. Hmph. Apparently I'll have to buy yet ANOTHER new controller - this one perhaps in pink - so it actually remains mine.Highly recommended!I purchased this remote with my own money.

Deciding it was time to donate my old wiimotes and the wiimote plus attachments and upgrade to the remotes that have the remote plus BUILT-IN, I decided to also do so with style.Although these come in 3 colors: black, blue, and hot pink, I opted for the colorful blue and pink wiimotes. (one set of blue, one of pink) If you have a family of 4 and get a white pair as well, everyone would have their own color and there is no argument over who didn't charge the remote during the last use or who left one at a friend's house, donthaknow. And that's where the convenience of these boils down to simply more than style.Because so many utilize the wii games and wii party games at gatherings, like a wine glass that all looks the same and needs a "wine charm" on the stem to differentiate picking up or (in the case of the wii) going home with someone elses...especially considering these cost more because they have the remote plus built IN that makes all movements picked up better by the wii....well, yours finally stands out in a crowd of white wiimotes and old school well-used wiimotes without the wiiplus. They come with the plastic cover on them and of course have the opening at the bottom for the nunchuck. The blue is Tiffany blue and the pink is hot pink...more so than it looks like on the photo. They work great and pick up every movement far better than the old remotes. Especially useful in action games and workout games.Plus the colored versions are only a few bucks more and are stylin'.

This is the Wii Remote that Nintendo Wii should have made in the first place! Anyway, let me tell you all about the Wii Remote Plus, or WRP for short. The WRP has the Wii Motion Plus accessory already built inside of it and it is the same size and weight as the standard Nintendo Wii Remote when the standard Nintendo Wii Remote does not have the Wii Motion Plus equipped onto it. You have to remember that equipping and unequipping the Wii Motion Plus accessories just to play a game makes it where you don't want to play the game anymore.Well, here it is my friends! The WRP! I purchased it and immediately tried it with my "Wii Sports Resort" game. Absolutely no problem! It works! It is not bulky or heavy! Now, here is what is in the box. You get one Wii Remote Plus (WRP). 2 Panasonic brand AA batteries. One plastic outer case for the WRP to go into (it is the same material used for the standard Wii Remote. Maybe it is silicone?) One instruction manual.HOWEVER, the instruction manual for the WRP does not tell you how to SYNC your new remote to your Nintendo Wii console, so if you do not have your old instruction booklet, I am going to do you a huge favor and type down the steps from mine. Please note that you do not need a working Wii Remote to start up your new remote.Remember, I typed these steps out of my Nintendo Wii Operations Manual System Setup bookletStep 1. Press the Power button on the Nintendo Wii console to turn it on.Step 2. Remove the battery cover on the back of the remote (with the batteries inside of it). Press and release the SYNC button (a little red button) inside the cover. The player LEDs will blink.Step 3. Open the SD card slot on the front of the Nintendo Wii console. Press and release the SYNC button (a square red button) on the inside of the compartment.Step 4. When the player LED blinking stops, connection is complete! The LED that is illuminated indicates the player number.NOTE: This procedure must be followed for each additional Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus added to your system. Now, please note that you do not get a nunchuk with your purchase. The nunchuk is sold seperately and the nunchuk is needed with many of the games made by Wii.One last note, the Wii Remote Plus has the Official Nintendo Seal on the box. That means that it is not made by a third party. It is made by Nintendo for Nintendo. I do not know about you, but for my Ninendo Wii, I look for the Nintendo Seal. I once purchased a fishing pole for the Wii and it did not have the Nintendo Seal. The Fishing Pole did not work and I had to return it to Amazon.com. It was a nightmare, so I wanted to include this.Well, This remote is worth the extra $5 since I do expect Nintendo to make more games that will require the Wii Motion accessory and unless you want to plug and unplug the accessory to a standard remote just to save $5.00, purchase this remote.Have fun playing "Wii Sports Resort" and I hope you get a high score! Remember, do not stop until you make to pro status because you can do it!
