Tips

install

Free of the upper case

  • Once the trackpad is free of the upper case, guide the ribbon cable through the slot cut in the upper case.

alignment

Check the alignment

  • When reinstalling the trackpad, loosely replace the four Phillips screws and check the alignment of the trackpad on the keyboard side of the upper case.

screw

Center the trackpad

  • Once you have centered the trackpad in the upper case, tighten the Phillips screws all the way.
  • Use the large Tri-point screw at the bottom of the trackpad to adjust the click stroke.

Extremely Important

Trackpad not working? It can be difficult to diagnose the exact problem. Is it the cable? The trackpad itself? Something not aligned correctly? Any of these could be the issue.

Question : Not possible to click ?

Answer : Try to reset the SMC in this way:

1. Attach the charger power cord

2. Power off the MacBook Pro

3. Press the L-Shift/Control/Option and Power button at the same time and hold.

4. Release them all at the same time

5. Then power on the MacBook Pro

Question : Click works fine but the trackpad doesn't detect fingers the way it used to ?

A : You probably need to slightly loosen the screw in that little triangle shaped groove by the bottom center of the trackpad. That will lessen restriction on the pressure sensor's range of movement so that it can detect slight touches.

Question : After installing the new trackpad ,couldn't click, as the clickable area of the trackpad wouldn’t move at all ?

A : To fix this,u should very slightly and gently pry the two small “pods” (on the long side opposite the connector) upwards (ie) towards the tactile surface.Once mounted again, it will work perfectly well.

Question: The trackpad works intermittently or only in some areas, or will track but won’t click ?

A : Symptom of a swelling battery will be,it requires replacing the battery and will be no issues.

Note:

  • It is important to make sure you connected well the keyboard/trackpad cable
  • Test if your keyboard is working before attempting to reset either the PRAM/NVRAM and the System Management Controller (SMC), which, although not required, I would recommend doing after replacing a piece of hardware like the trackpad

Could’ve at least include a set of screws. Come on now…If you have ever replaced one, then you would’ve known that they are so small and can get damaged, or the holding bracket will break…

This trackpad does not work. The cable it came with was defective as well. the mouse doesn't move or click at all.I checked all connections to the motherboard and the motherboard is in working conditions.IF amazon could refund me the money I would be happy but I know now that is a complete lost.

Works great !2 points of caution- Just make sure, you order the right one, as there are subtle differences between macbook models that will not fit the part. The seller kindly allowed me to return the wrong part I first ordered.- The mounting screws are very very small, so do the repair in a clean, comfortable well light area

This trackpad fit my MBP mid-2012 A1286 laptop perfectly. The color is a little off but that's Ok. It tracks great. I didn't change the ribbon cable. Initially, there was no clicking sound and the trackpad was a little stiff. I returned to this page and followed the instructions. I loosened the Tri-point screw at the bottom of the trackpad and I gently bent the two small "pods" opposite the connector. That fixed the problem. Now the trackpad functions exactly like the original part!

This trackpad works well enough, especially compared to the original that stopped functioning. the fit into the opening on my mid 2010 macbook pro 15" is fine, but not perfect. It seats just a little crooked, but that doesn't really matter. My main feedback is that the trackpad is not 100% perfectly uniform in its sensitivity. I can move my fingers across the trackpad and the cursor will go for a bit then stop moving. I have to press my fingers on the pad harder to get more uniform motion of the cursor. All in all if you have a broken trackpad and need an inexpensive replacement, this one will work well. It just doesn't function exactly like the original apple trackpad.

The battery on my son's older Macbook Pro swelled, popped some of the case screws out and cracked the trackpad (not an unusual occurrence as these batteries age). This trackpad was an easy replacement, once the battery is removed the trackpad is right there, only a few tiny screws holding it in. Great value.
