For me I tried replacing the thermopile, even the assembly but did not fix the issue. Most likely actual controls which controlled the gas supply had gone bad as I tried replacing the board as well. But taking the old one was not easy as it was stuck and pushing it further would broken the plastic screw inside the tank. So ended up leaving old plastic shell as is and just replacing the internals with the new ones by opening it up and replacing individual parts. That did the job for me. Saved about 800$ in labor and parts that plumber was quoting to have it fixed

My 13 year old Bradford White Gas Valve went out! Replaced it with new one and worked great. Saved at least $1750 instead of buying and installing new one.
