This picture is what the 2015 Sonata has (from my car) and while they are similar, it does not fit the car no matter what Amazon says. We are having to buy the correct one.

Napa, Auto Zone, Car Quest, O'Reillys, and even Rock Auto did not have a thermostat for my 2016 Kia Optima in stock nor did they expect to have one for weeks. Amazon recommended this thermostat and baed on the product pictures, it looked as if it would be a suitable replacement to include a position bead on the wall of the thermostat. The thermostat arrived the next day and I disassembled the air intake and distribution hoses to gain access to the thermostat housing and removed the old thermostat and placed the new one and reassembled the engine and intake. As soon as I began to replace the coolant, the engine began leaking like a sieve from the thermostat housing. I disassembled the intake and hoses again and pulled out the new thermostat and found the rubber gasket had been sliced through the center by the sharp edges of the thermostat either during manufacture or during the packaging process. I was able to salvage the gasket from the factory thermostat and reinstalled the replacement thermostat and assembled the air hoses, filter housing, intake, etc. I refilled the coolant with no leaks. After resetting the OBD system and drove the Kia for more than 50 miles, there have been no issues with a check engine light for a bad thermostat.I would recommend this part for your Kia or Hyundai, but inspect the gasket prior to installation to confirm it is intact so you don'y have the same problem I experienced.

Replaced my 2016 Kia Opt LX water thermostat. This item does fit and the temp is exact for my car. The stock OEM thermostat has a indent marker for placing into the car.... this generic replacement does not, so when you pull it, you want to position it the same way as you took the old one out. The other thing is the stock OEM is longer than this replacement.... but seems to work fine. After purging the air out of the system and replacing the fluids with new... temp is perfect so far. In fact, with my new thermostat and fluids, my temp is a fraction lower and my fans do not turn on so much... runs much cooler.

Wasn't hard at all to put in. I didn't drain the radiator , just removed the thermostat and put the new one in. Then I let it get up to temp by watching the antifreeze circulate . Made sure there wasn't any air trapped in the system. checked the level the next day and added (1 cup) worth of antifreeze fluid to the overflow reservoir to cap it off at full. Ez peze!
