Rebuilding a dirt bike motor isn't the easiest thing to do. Before we started installing this kit for a Honda CRF70 I took the kit to a friend who owns a machine shop. He said the manufacture was great, perfectly round cylinder with parallel walls. So we rebuilt the motor with the kit. After a few minutes of run time we had some issue in the top end. Compression dropped and I sent all of our diagnostice information to XMT-MOTO. They were very responsive and got me the parts we needed to get the rebuild completed. Very nice folks to work with. I would definitely buy from them again.

I got this kit to rebuild a little 2003 xr70 for my kid. It went together well enough but I was chasing leaks. Eventually I found holes in the cylinder that came with the kit. Upon discovering the holes I contacted the seller who sent us a replacement cylinder and gaskets. While the longevity of the product remains to be seen the customer service is admirable for such an inexpensive product. Thank You.

This rebuild kit was specified to fit Honda ATC70 CRF70 CT70 C70 TRX70 XR70 S65, but it didn’t work as supplied for a TRX70.I think that the stroke must be shorter on a TRX70 than the other models, because the piston in the kit was quite a bit shorter than stock TRX70 piston (from the wrist pin to the dome). The piston supplied with the kit was 5mm-10mm below the top of the cylinder at TDC. This was enough clearance that I was confident that the engine wouldn’t get enough compression to actually run. This forced me to use the original Honda piston because the one in the kit wasn’t going to work…BUT the Honda piston didn’t work with the head supplied with the kit either. The chamfer on the Honda piston was different than the matching chamfer on the head supplied with the kit. This made the piston contact the head at TDC, and prevented the engine from rotating a full turn. The piston and head supplied in the kit have matching chamfer, but have a more shallow angle (~30°) than the Hondas parts (~60°). I should have taken more pictures, but the sketch shows what I am describing.I ended up filing the head and piston to match the tapers and eliminate the interference at TDC. I assumed other kits would have the same issue, so my options would be limited. I was also super frustrated after assembling and disassembling this engine 3-4 times, and I just wanted to finish it.So… This kit is definitely is not a drop-in replacement for a TRX70. The kit won’t work as supplied, and there isn’t a combination of kit parts and Honda parts that work without some modification.

ATTENTION! You’ll need to adjust the valves after installing. I did not. Was able to salvage parts from my old head after I ran the new motor with loose rocker arms. Had I just checked the valves before running it, the rebuild would have been a flawless head swap. I used this kit to rescue a Honda CRF70. She used to smoke like crazy and now it’s smooth as butter.

Attempted to install this on a 1971 C70. Noticed some small differences in the head design but just a cursory examination and all the holes seemed to match. When we actually went to do the install we started to notice differences from the stock parts. The piston was shorter than the stock piston and when installed made the stroke shorter. We then looked at the head and the valves and combustion chamber were much smaller than the stock parts. Best I can tell is that we were sent a kit for a 50cc instead of the 70 we ordered. Lesson learned I guess. We were able to use the gaskets and the cylinder from the kit but that was it.
