This is actually my second flash (newer version) from the same company. The first one worked well, but the battery compartment broke. This required taping it shut which worked for a time, but started getting annoying. Time for a new flash. It worked fine for a time, but within a year started having an issue where it would work intermittently. After taking one shot, the flash would not work on the second shot. Taking a couple more shots, the flash would start working. Sometimes it would require taking it off and putting it back on again. Tried it on another camera which also exhibited the same issues. After troubleshooting with support, I had cleaned the contacts, changed batteries and other suggestions. Ultimately, it got me nowhere. Support kept requesting more and more information which I had already provided and just got tired of dealing with them. Given the time zone difference, going back and forth and the late responses took weeks to troubleshoot with no resolution. If it worked consistently, this could be a great value but it did not work for me.

Works perfectly with Canon R5 and Canon RF 100mm f2.8 Macro lens.My only gripe, and why I did not give it 5 stars is that the 67mm adapter, which is required for the Canon Macro lens has an inside diameter of 64 mm. There is no lens cap that fits this. Because this is used (by me) for insect photography, it is essential to keep the lens protected until ready to shoot. YONGNUO should have at least included a cap that fits the Canon Macro 67mm adapter as this is what it is billed for.For those who care, the flash duration goes from about 100 microseconds and up on ETTL to 1.05 milliseconds on manual. Rather interestingly, the light output for duration above about 100 microseconds is a flat-topped pulse, that is, constant light output during the flash, unlike a xenon flash tube flash.The attached photos were shot at f16, 1/200 second, ETTL, M camera mode, and about 15 cm from the front of the RF 100mm f2.8 Macro.

Got this for ‘non-professional’ purpose of macro, portrait and product photography.. I don’t normally use flash, so I am still figuring out the settings and what not..The ring flash comes with its adapter rings, but you can also use Cokin P adapter rings without issue and up to size 77.Sample image taken with 85mm + 36mm extension, YN14EXII and one more handheld overhead LED light

Sin duda alguna fue la mejor compra. Un flash súper potente, tenia otro flash y al comprar este mis fotos dieron un cambio total. Posa un poco pero nada para no adaptarse y les recomiendo tener pilas recargables por lo menos 2 porque descarga un poco rápido la pilas.

I bought this for use with EOS R because I only need a ring flash occasionally and the Canon one is insanely expensive. I found one or two reviews implying it is compatible but others saying it underexposed in automatic/ETTL mode. Unfortunately, my experience was the latter. I tried changing numerous settings in the unit and the camera but could only get acceptable results by manually increasing ISO, which also increases the exposure from background light, defeating the object of using the flash (to highlight the subject only and darken the background). It is useable in manual mode but again that defeats the object of buying a flash with ETTL mode. Note that this unit does NOT have updateable firmware, therefore I would advise caution with newly released camera models. I am guessing a firmware upgrade is necessary for the EOS R and newer models. I returned it for a refund and replaced with Nissin MF18, which works fine with my camera (though nearly twice the price of this one).

I looked at few other units that cost less but decided to go with this one as I have other Yongnuo flashes and they all work great. This is a very nice unit and it does exactly what I want it to do. That's all I ask for.

Flash came with broken part. Amazon sent me a replacement right away. Diffuser has small metal plate. Those came off when I tried them on. Magnet to hold the diffusers were some what weak. It will slide off and you will easily loose your diffusers if you don't pay attention. Haven't made up my mine if I should keep it or not.

I just got into macro photography 2 months ago. purchased the Canon 100mm Macro L. it takes amazing photos but I always need more light. I used my video lights at first, but it still wasn't giving me what I wanted. Here comes this amazing flash. It comes in a cool case, with gels, and lens adapters to fit most sizes. The build is a high quality plastic. The flash seems to work great. I like how you can control both sides to create a better looking image so it doesn't look flat. Save yourself $400 and get this bad boy instead of the canon version.
