The mesh is pretty coarse. I used it during bottling. I'm not so sure it was necessary. The filter really didn't trap anything.It's easy to clean. Maybe a finer mesh would have trapped some sediment but I didn't see much to filter out.It's a good design though. No leaks, no decrease in flow from using it.

I purchased this and returned it as it did not filter as well as I had hoped. I ordered another cartridge style and now have clear beer.
