A hole size of 1" drilled in metal will be slightly loose. It will take some effort to insert it as the prongs on the outside will interfere a little. Once in, it will turn with little effort. Sealing the inside with some silicone should stop the louver from spinning. The screen is nice so bugs are kept out. The downward slats help keep out water.Overall, these are nice little louvers.

Used them to replace the plastic ones that were initially placed as vents. Fits well and very sturdy.

These fit perfectly to replace some pre-existing louvered vents in the side of my house under a window. It's hard to find vents this size (or even figure out what they're called). The picture here with the actual size of the vents was extremely helpful. If you too have these little vents in your old house, and perhaps someone has accidentally painted over them, sealing them shut, these could also be a good replacement for you. Very easy to pull the old ones and replace with these.

METAL!! I like metal. Hate plastic. Nice metal screens too. "Made in USA", but I suspect materials may be outsourced - you never know! Many complaints about the hole size. I didn't find this to be an issue. I used a standard 2" hole saw. Perhaps some of the hole size problems are related to wobbling or drift while drilling the holes? I made a template/guide out of a scrap chunk of 2x6 (no, I'm a dummy and didn't get a picture). I drilled out my three-hole pattern on the bench good and straight. Then I attached to my blocking between the rafter tails with a couple screws, and drilled out the vent holes. The vents pushed in with enough resistance to satisfy me, they're not going to fall out. My attic now has the proper square inches of inlet vents to support the exhaust fan.
