I ordered the Xhziv 10 inch Ceiling Fan Medallion because the modern ceiling fans have a significantly smaller mounting area. My 20 year old fan with a large motor left a hole about 8 inches in diameter. Covering this the proper way would be difficult or expensive. So, I took the easy way with this ceiling medallion. The material is foam, and it can be painted to match the ceiling. I was uncertain how well the paint would adhere, so I added a layer of primer.

We ordered the ceiling medallion to use to cover some holes that were cut too large for new fixtures. The medallion itself is very lightweight and almost like this foam material but it looks very nice on the side that shows. We don't really attach them to the ceiling we just hold them with painters tape until the light fixture is installed but you could also glue this up to the ceiling before installation if you wanted it is super lightweight. The design is not over the top but does add a little bit of class as well as helping make the fixture look flush.
