I used two sizes of these conical wedges on a double-bit axe. This axes has been hard to keep a snug fit with just a wooden wedge. But with these further expanding the head of the axe handle, it is super tight.

Bought these for my framing hammer and they started to come lose after a day. Put a small metal wedge in the middle to help a bit but it fell out still. Had more luck with a round wedge i found on the floor at work than with these. Made me waste a good hammer handle.

Why I bought this product: I bought my son a strange-looking Italian military surplus pick-hammer from American Scientific & Surplus. I figured (correctly) that it would be a fun conversation piece on his Boy Scout camp-outs. The only problem was that the handle had never been installed into the head, and I have never had to install or replace a handle to a striking tool before. There was lots of room around the handle, and i had my doubts about a traditional wedge.So I leaned on Google to tell me what to do and wound up ordered this. When the conical wedges arrived, I was at work, and my son tapped it in a bit off-center, which may explain why the handle to split a little bit at the top. Nevertheless, the top of the handle now completely fills the opening in the pick-hammer head, so there's no longer a risk of the pick-end flying off the handle and hurting one of my son's Boy Scout buddies when they're trying to pitch their tents on rocky terrain.

Used 2 wedges on my mattock. Got tired of using nails to keep head on handle. Handle is now tightly secured to mattock head.
