High bandwidth USB cables that come with SSD enclosures are very short for a reason: the longer the cable, the more signal loss there is. This evening I tested several cables and adapters, some—like this one—acquitted themselves quite well, while others outright failed to work.Test #1 = connect a Thunderbolt 4 port to 4K monitor @ 60Hz• PASSED• notes: no issuesTest #2 = connect a Thunderbolt 4 port to a fast SSD housed in a 40Gbps enclosure• PASSED• notes: this cable turned in an EXCELLENT performance considering its length (roughly 7X as long as the cable that came with the enclosure). As expected, there was some signal degradation which affected data rates: read speeds decline by less than half a percent, while write speeds declined by about 2.5%Build quality is quite nice and I like the grippy inserts on the plug shell.[Disclosure: I received this product for “free”—in quotes because the IRS considers the item’s retail value as taxable income for federal income tax purposes. This Thunderbolt 5 cable has truly transformed how I use my docking station. The 1.6ft length is just right for connecting everything, and I love the seamless transfer speeds I get. With a bandwidth of up to 120Gbps, I can quickly move large files or stream high-res content without any lag. It’s been a huge time-saver, especially when I need to transfer big video files or handle multiple tasks at once. The video capabilities are next-level. I’ve been able to hook up dual 4K monitors with smooth visuals, and everything looks crisp and fluid. This cable supports up to 8K displays, which means I’ll be ready for the highest resolution setups when I upgrade my monitors in the future. The gaming experience on my system has also been phenomenal, with refresh rates up to 540Hz. It’s a major improvement for fast-paced games that require smooth motion. The build quality stands out as well. This cable is built to last, with braided material that feels strong and resistant to wear. I also noticed that it’s highly resistant to EMI, which ensures that data transfer is uninterrupted. The 24k gold-plated connectors only add to the reliability, keeping the signal quality top-notch.Another impressive feature is the 240W power delivery. It handles fast charging for my devices without any issues, ensuring everything stays powered up while I work. The universal compatibility means I can use it with almost any Thunderbolt-enabled device, including my laptop, external storage, and monitors. If you're looking for a reliable, high-performance cable for your docking station, this one checks all the boxes. It combines speed, durability, and top-tier video output, making it the ideal solution for anyone who needs fast data transfer and crystal-clear visuals.

This is yet another brand I have never heard of however it should be noted that the build quality of this cable is excellent and looks to be ruggedized for mobile use.. not just a desk princess..I don't really have an elegant way to determine if the cable does all it is supposed to do.. I can say that when I move large folders of images from my laptop to an external SSD the transfer speeds are the same from my more traditional Thunderbolt 3/4 cables.. me thinks that the limitation of speed might be due to my computer (2023 MacBook Pro) or the SSD [enclosure]?I also hooked up the cable to my OWC desktop hub where I plug in my MacBook to charge and where I get my ethernet hook-up.. we have 2GB service at my house and the cable delivers sufficient power to charge my machine as well as easily allowing the 2GB bandwidth to slide into my machine... again, this is the same/similar performance to my 'usually attached' Thunderbolt 4 cable (plus it is 24" long which helps).Final thoughts - like most cables, the shortest lengths are usually the most expensive as there is quite a bit of money in the ends/fittings... the more economical versions of this (on a per-foot value) would be in the 3.3 feet to 5 foot range as there is only a few dollars separating the different lengths. The price for the 1.6 foot version I have is currently US$29.99 (as of 20 January 2025 and that is not including any offers or coupons being factored in) where the 3.3 is $35.99, the 4 foot is $37.99 and the 5 foot is $39.99.I would say that for field use or for travel, the 3.3 or 4 foot versions would handle pretty much anything thrown at them and really 3 to 5 feet is usually plenty for most activities (unless you're tethering or doing some other activities).
