To be fair I am not a professional with the xylophone, but overall these mallets get the job done and are worth the price. They do produce a decent sound, reliably, and the length is decent as well. I would say my biggest complaint is that is would like a little more bound from the rubber mallet, they are very hard and don't provide the bounce back I'd prefer. With that said I'm a drummer so that could be a personal preference at play.The yarn covered mallets truly silence indirect hits, so those do their job, the yarn feels a little cheap but it's not for wearing, and does the job.I do like the look and feel of the yarn covered mallet better than the rubber which is very strait and lacks some embellishment, but again... Value set! Overall gets the job done.
