We have one screen that got damaged in a storm, so thought I would give this DIY screen frame kit that includes screen mesh, aluminum frame pieces, spline tool and heavy duty corners. Maximum size of 46” x 46” that can be cut down to fit smaller windows. Instructions could be improved, and may want to ensure that you have a sharp fine-tooth hacksaw for cutting the frame cleanly. I would probably recommend pricing the pre-framed size you need at local stores to see if similar pricing without the time lost to create your own? But a good option to have for replacement, especially on odd size window screens. (Valued at $49.98 at time of review)

This is a do it yourself screen making kit to let you make two home window screens up to 46" x 46". You get 8 frame pieces and 8 corner pieces to put the frame together with. The frame rails are very easy and quick to cut with a hacksaw, and the corner pieces just push into the rails to join them together. When you cut the rails be sure when you are measuring that you allow for the extra little bit of size you add with the corner pieces when you use them in the ends of the rails. You then lay the newly created screen frame face down, and spread the screen material across it. You may want to cut the screen material in half first, or to a size a couple of inches wider and longer than the frame, just to make it easier to handle. When you have the screen layed out you take one of the lengths of rubber splines start by pushing one end of it into the groove in the frame somewhere in the middle of a side, using the spline tool to push the spline into the groove and force the screen into the groove under it. Keep working your way around, keeping tension on the screen to keep the screen straight and unwrinkled as you go. This is not difficult, but it helps to work slowly, and get everything aligned properly the first time. While you are splining, you can push in the pull tab in the center of one side as you go, and don't forget to also put the spring clips in the frame opposite the pull tab. When you are done you have a custom fit screen that is solid and well made. These are a nice black color, and the nylon screen is also black, making a nice looking screen. I think this is a good product that works well, is easy to trim and assemble, looks great, can fit a wide variety of window sizes, and sells for a very good price. 5 Stars!

I received this yesterday and already made my screen. It came in very well packaged. The framework material is very sturdy. Everything for making a window screen is included except saw and measuring tape. This is a wonderful kit. I highly recommend this kit.

Inspect the ends of the frame pieces, and cut so as to discard any ends that appear damaged (one of mine was slightly dented). Be sure to account for the (2) 0.75" of corners when measuring cuts. Use a medium-sized steel flat file to square off the hacksaw cuts. Start by clearing off a large table. I recommend getting a bunch of large binder clips (see photo) to position the screen on the frame while installing the spline. I think takes 1-2 hours to do all this work for the first time, and first-time results may not always look perfect, so be sure check the cost of new custom screens as an option. Installation of the finished screen is easy.

I have ordered screen kits before but this kit is really nice. The metal rails are quite thick and all the material is metal except the screen lift tabs. Made really nice replacement screens! The screw driver and gloves are a great addition! I would advise using a compound saw with the blade reversed to cut the corners. That will give you a precise angle and smooth cut!

This 2 Window Screen Frame Kit comes with everything needed to make two window screens 46x46 or smaller (except for a saw; a saw is needed to cut the heavy duty aluminum alloy frame material to size). The black screen fabric is polyester so it's easy to work with, durable, and looks good. The instructions are easy to read and follow to make a quality set of window screens. Excellent value.
