This is the brains of the safety circuit on an Suburban water heater. This unit is actually two safety devices in one package. Not sure why they combine into one unit, instead of letting you replace separately, like Dometic, but if one part goes bad, you actually have to replace both. Now, even weirder, your Suburban water heater has TWO sets of these safety devices. One set is for just the gas function of the heater, and the other is only for the electric function. This is a great feature, since it means that should one of these sensors go bad, you only lose function on one fuel source. The other will still function. That is also a huge clue to diagnosing. If your water heater works on gas, but not on electric, or works on electric but not on gas, this may be your problem. But if it won't work on either fuel, this is probably NOT the issue (it would take multiple failures for this to be the case). This part consists of two items, the T-stat and the ECO. The T-stat is the thermostat and cycles the water heater on/off to maintain the water temp at about 135-140 degrees. The other piece, the ECO is an emergency cut-off device. Should the T-stat fail stuck shut, it will not turn the heater off and the water will get too hot. The ECO then shuts the water heater down at about 180 degrees. On a suburban, this is a hard shut-down and the heater will no longer heat water. You have to walk outside, open the cover and push the reset buttons to reset the ECO. Then, it will work again. If it immediately pops the ECO again, you have to replace. Now, for some bad news. There are two types. The one for the electric-side and the one for the gas-side are NOT the same. The terminals are different size, so you can't use interchangeably. This particular one is for the one for the electric-side operation. You can tell because the terminals are flat. On the gas-side one, the terminals are larger, and they are bent up at a 45-degree angle. When mounting, make sure to put in the right orientation. One of the two sensors has a tube sticking up from the the back. This is the ECO. It has to be mounted in the up position on units that mount vertically, and to the right if the unit is mounted horizontally. This is to align with the rubber reset button that covers the ECO, so you can reset it.Check to make sure yours has the flat terminals. But also, know that this part will only fix your issue if your water heater does not heat on electric, but can heat on gas.

I learned my lesson... Always have a set of these around, because they'll fail when you;re relying on them and away from home.Come safely packaged in a strong box to survive shipping and tumbling around in your spares drawer for a few years until needed.
